Let's do a drive in San Diego County on October 24th. Maybe something like we did last year. Start in Escondido, go up the south grade to Palomar Mtn., look at the obervatory, down the east grade and then to Santa Ysabel Casino for lunch. Route may change, but end up at Santa Ysabel Casino (well, I haven't been to that one yet).
Start around 8:00 am on that Saturday with earlier start around 7:30 am from the smart dealer up to Escondido for the 8:00 am depart.
From the Casino, we could go up to Julian, down to Lake Cuyamaca to the Sunrise Hy. through the Lagunas to Pine Valley/I-8.

We may be interested. How about making the tour a little further North like around Temecula? It would be close to 2 hours for us to make it to the Escondido area.

We have our plan and area. Maybe you can figure out something for a drive and put out an invite. Or the Inland Empire group could come up with something. Heck, I wouldn't mind a drive up into the San Jacinto mountains. I haven't been up to Idyllwild for a while now. But some other time.

Slight change of plan for Saturday 10/24. First part stays the same, last part changes.

0730 meet at San Diego smart Center (those who live in San Diego).
Leave 0735(ish) for Escondido.
0800 Meet at south east corner of Grand Ave and Escondido St. in flower shop parking lot.
Take Grand east onto E. Valley Parkway into S-6.
Take S-6 all the way up to 76. Turn right (east) on 76.
Take S-6 (left) up to Palomar Mtn. (south grade). At top of mountain turn left (still S-6).
Go to parking lot (free!) and Observatory (free!).
Come back down S-6 into S-7 (just stay straight) which is the east grade road.
At end of S-7 turn left onto 76.
At end of 76 turn right on 79.
Turn left into entrance to Santa Ysabel Casino. Look for sign - easy to spot.
Visit Casino (my first time there).
Come back down from Casino and turn left on 79.
Turn left onto 78/79 (Santa Ysabel).
At Julian turn right on 79.
South on 79 past I-8 onto Japatul Rd.
When road splits onto Lyons Valley road, stay on Japatul Rd. (right turn).
Turn left onto Dehesa Rd. (Japatul turns into Tavern Rd. here).
Turn left onto Sycuan road.
Go to Sycuan Casino for Lunch Buffet (should be lunch time by then).
Leave when you want.
Right turn on Dehesa Rd. will take you to Tavern Rd. (Alpine) or
Left turn on Dehesa and right on Harbison Canyon will take you back up to I-8 or
Turn left on Dehesa which will take you into El Cajon and left on 54 (Jamacha) to those who need to go south or right on 54 (Jamacha) to go back up to I-8.

Anyone can join us anywhere on the route, or just wait for us at Sycuan.

Ron and I will have FRS radios (Family Service Radios) and will be on 4.

Just show up if you feel like it. It may just be three smarts - okay with me!

Last year coming down the east grade with Lake Henshaw below. The Santa Ysabel Casino is across the lake - very hard to spot. The clearing up on the hillside left edge of picture.

Weather will nice tomorrow. Looking forward to the drive. Will be fun to check out the new casino. By the way, how many will be starting off at smartcenter San Diego?
