Hi David glad to see another San Diego smartie. Last weekend a bunch of us got together and went on a road-trip up through Palomar Mtn. and Julian. Every friday at 6pm we get together in Escondido for Cruzin' Grand. We have our own area in a parking lot. Lots of classics and other cars are there and people come down to go around to look at all the cars. We meet at the corner of Grand Ave and Escondido Blvd.

Thanks a lot --

I don't actually own a Smart Car. I work for the San Diego Association of Governments. I'm putting together a community event for the opening of a new stretch of really advanced freeway -- Express Lanes on Interstate 15 -- and we were thinking of maybe having some dignitaries drive on the new lanes in some kind of modern new cars -- Smart Cars seemed like a good idea. So I'm trying to find a contact or organization that might be able to help. Do you have any ideas for me?

Sounds really cool. Trying PM'ing SmartShanna. Here's a link to her profile, she's our group organizer. You could also create a thread here in the San Diego forum explaining you are trying to do.

David,

This is the group you want to work with...and/or the SD Dealer.

What are you wanting to do and when? You'll find us to be most enthusiastic when it comes to smart car events of any sort!

Rick

And you do know there are only two seats, right?

Yup -- I know there are only two seats. The idea would be to get together several cars -- and put a dignitary in the passenger seat of each one. The driver/owner drives the car, and the dignitary types just wave.

Smart cars seemed cool because the freeway has a lot of advanced technology for traffic management, a moveable barrier for changing lane configurations, special transit stations and direct access ramps, etc. -- in other words, it's a smart freeway.

I don't have all the details yet and we haven't made a final decision to do this yet, but I'm guessing if we do, we'll need about half a dozen cars or so.

Thanks for the tip -- I will send a note to SmartShanna. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

David, I just sent you an email (the text for those who are interested):

Hi David,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the opening of the I-15 section--I think using the smart car club is a fantastic idea! We have a great group of enthusiastic owners who are always excited to be a part of community events. We were in the Kensington Memorial Day parade and we have been asked to participate in the Old Highway 80 celebration in October. When is your event? My cell #

Call or email at your convenience.

What do you say, folks? Sounds fun, huh? Are you in?
