Another NorCal meet of a different kind?

Because the Lombard Street event cannot be surpassed, either in terms of the grandness of its vision, or the sublimity of its execution, perhaps we should look in a different direction in search of the next event. How about this idea - we could all meet in Locke. Haven't heard of it? Here's a little bit of info: it's in the Delta, convenient to Sacramento and points east, not all that far from the Bay Area, and an easy drive from farther points both north and south. It's the only town in the United States built by and for the Chinese community and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Read more about it here and here. There's no Chamber of Commerce, but there's something called the Locke Foundation which might be able to help in planning. This would be a chance to see a part of California new to many of us, to renew acquaintances, and to make new friends. Perhaps in October? Your thoughts?

Locke is a neat little town on the Sacramento River. This time of year, it should make for a great Meet. Have Fun!!!

Y'all go to Lombard St, and then maybe to Locke ...

Why don't you all hope in your cars and drive over to Smartsville, CA (formerly known as "Smartville, CA")?

Seems like it would be the ... Smart ... place to go!

Your pal,
Meat.

Smartsville

After 99 years, California town Smartsville gets 2nd 's' back

Looks like they just got their original name back. So this is in Yuba county, the Gold country. There are some fabulous twisty roads there and the Sierra regional Mini Cooper club does annual runs there. I will contact them and see if I can get some maps and recommendations on places to stay, etc, attractions, etc..

Smartsville, here we come! What time of year you think would be good to do this? I bet it's awfully hot in the summer! Sacramento people, this is closer to your neck of the woods. Maybe we can do a multi-part run from San Francisco, to Old Town Sacramento, then onward to Gold Country, whaddya think?

CA Rallies

Paul - I've always wanted to go to Locke. I would only recommend from our experiences with Lombard that you get a large group of organizers, begin with constant communication with the town's "foundation," as well as other town leaders such as their chamber of commerce, etc. Seeing that it is a federal Historic Place, I'd highly recommend contacting the appropriate federal agencies, even if you plan on 2 smart cars in the rally. October would be a great time, but I'd start yesterday, if you want to do it right. Getting insurance, permits, meet notices etc done in 6 weeks is a challenge, but I bet you can do it.

Regarding Smartville, wouldn't that be a great place for a statewide rally!! It would take a lot of work, but anything is possible after Lombard. Are you volunteering, Chris? I'd like to help out with both ventures, but I'm a little tied up at the moment, if you get my drift!

But, I'd sure like to celebrate in Locke or anywhere else for that matter by October. Good luck!

Locke is a great location. Small comunity, very little parking, great little resturant/bar. (AL'S PLACE OR bettter known as "Al the Waps") Tiny but great little spot.

Another suggestion would be Iron Stone Winery in Murphy.

Ironstone Vineyards and Winery- Sierra Foothills

This is a great run from Sacramento up thru the gold country on Hwy 49

Hiya Nor-Cal smarties~~

Have you pinned down a date yet? My mother lives in Amador County, only about 60 miles from Locke, so a trip south again might be doable!!!

Late Oct or early Nov?
