How about S. Lake Tahoe? A ride up Hwy 50 would be nice during Autumn---maybe a couple of stops in Apple Hill on the way up?

An overnight stay and cruising around the lake before snow season might be nice.

How about Old Sac? There's plenty to do there (railroad museum, tons of places to eat and shop?
I think you can get there by driving along the delta...?
