Last week I took my car to smart Center San Francisco for the 10,000 mile service, and the experience was much better than I expected. Yes, after years of bad experiences with many different factory service departments, I was expecting the same for my fortwo. This was not the case.
I arrived at 8:30 and was 4th in line with about 9 Mercedes-Benz and one other smart. It's a little weird because the MB drivers demand immediate attention and there are a lot of service advisers to attend to their needs. But a single smart advisor, Felipe, is dedicated to writing up the smarts. He is very pleasant to deal with, and seemed to know the fortwo well.
Although I had changed the oil and filter myself at 4,000 miles, I decided to hand the scheduled maintenance over to the dealer. There were only two items I needed fixed under warranty, the brake pedal had a slight squeak and my Radio 9 was one of those that would not stay off.
When I picked up the car they had fixed the squeak and to my surprise installed a new Radio 10. Felipe said they didn't have a Radio 9 in stock and didn't want me to wait.
The cost for the 10K service was $192.81 which seems about average for dealerships in the SF Bay Area. (My Scion maintenance was $100 @ 5,000 miles, and $120 @ 15,000 miles)
BTW - Although no one would pay the $1,047 part price for a Radio 10 it does sound much better than the Radio 9.
