FYI; i drove Lozano's Brushless Car Wash in Mountain View yesterday for their good, low-priced wash and the free pink lemonade
The attendant called the manager, who said that they would not take my Smart because the wheelbase is to narrow for their tracking system.
Whether or not that's true, it seems as if they are unwilling to try, so you might want to plan your trip to the car wash somewhere else . . . the one on South Van Ness in San Francisco takes it, but its pretty pricey.
You mean the one that's on the corner where a million streets intersect there at the same time? It is pricy, I filled up my mercedes SL 550 there and decided to get a car wash, but that was only once.. came out over 20 dollars I think.. i forgot, i was gonna take my "Screaming cow" there to wash but considering how small the car is, I find it easy and quick to just wash my own cow

The first car wash on my smart was free because the owner/manager wanted to check the tracking with such a small car. Those guys love my car! (And they got a pretty substantial tip, too.)

Poor Babies....It takes all of 10 minutes with a bucket, hose, and a cup of blue car wash soap from wally-world to wash a smart.
Sometimes I think we should get discounted washes since many locations charge extra for SUVs or maybe a credit for use with SUVs, since 1.5 (SUV) plus .5 (smart) equals 2. :-)
I have notice on the non track side (usually the passenger side), the wheel and tire brushes may not reach the smart (too short of extension arms) and that the smart tends to track to the right (slope for water drainage to center of car wash?) while being pushed thru the left track washes I frequent.
The best carwashes are the ones that have people hand washing your car as it goes through the sprayers. The one by my house (Brentwood) starts you out with two guys scrubbing the bugs then you go through the sprayers and dryer. After that you get the inside cleaned and vacuumed and the outside hand dried. I haven't had any problems with leaking in my cabrio. I know I'm lazy, but it's much nicer to drive through and have 6 people clean your car than to drag out the hose and do it yourself.
Take your smart out on any weekend and let the local charities hand wash and dry it! They are on many street corners every weekend in my town (High School Band, Boy/Girl Scouts, 4H Club, etc...). You'll meet loads of new friends, you'll be answering tons of questions, you'll be able to be a smart ambassador, and they'll be done in 10 minutes.
