Went by Niello last night. They just received a second load of smarts. The salesman said they will be open today (Sat with rides etc.) He said he thought they had about 9 for delivery. I am at 1180 so that will be a week or more. He seems to think that an order now should be available for delivery in 3 to 4 months. That seems like a real reach considering the # of reservations and the production rate.

I think that 4 month quote on getting a car if you order now might turn out to be true. Even though the anticipation and buzz generated by the company has been very well orchestrated, they still have to get the buyer to plunk down the cash and drive it away. Smart is going out the door at full sticker plus some markups. I think with all the recession talk in the media right now, and the stock market bombing, many people are going to get cold feet. There are loads of other cars out there sitting on dealer lots and only so many buyers looking. I'll bet we're going to start seeing some pretty good deals with financing and rebates for everything but Smarts. Hopefully that will move the real Smart fanatics up the list quicker!

How did I miss the forum (reloading and not scrolling down the list to other forums, that's how)?

I'm in Fremont (the northeastern outpost of Silicon Valley), regarded as The Far East by those on the peninsula; but hey, we've got great weather, low smog (daily bay-valley pump), and great running trails.

I didn't reserve until (gulp) October. That's okay, I keep changing my mind about the colors. Since hearing about the enviro benefits of the three non-metallic colors, I've just about come full circle; I've gone from white/black (too much contrast?) to silver/silver (still a contrast but a tad off), to blue/silver (probably my favorite), to black/black (cleaning and visibility concerns) to white/silver, which I'm now wondering if it is too subdued.

In seeing some the deliveries of red/black, I like it but probably won't go that way. Regardless of your selection, it's hard to go wrong. Isn't it nice that they aren't the typical silver metallic, charcoal metallic, and gold metallic?

Just went by the SF Benz/Smart Center and they have a sign up in the window saying that their grand opening will be Jan 26th (at least it's telling us something) New floor models out and looking like they actually may be opening for business by then. Anxious to have them open and to take a little longer test drive from the one at the Road show . Once open that's a one step closer to my liitle guy, Yippee

Went to Niello Sacramento today. They've got about 10 sitting out front with sold signs on them. Took a test drive and really enjoyed myself. Didn't have to wait at all. The salesmen thought that reservations made in Dec. would probably be seeing their own cars in around 6 months, but said it's just an educated guess. He welcomed me to stop by anytime and take another drive. At least I can go look at them now.

You didn't happen to talk to anyone did you? I still am just trying to get some answers about certain things and I'm not sure if this means they are not replying to people or contacting those whose cars are in until Jan 26?

no bodies in the smart "Loft" did not get a chance to ask my list of questions, I will try again later this week. (work not to far from there)
