Oh, I get it, it wasn't until I started typing,

anyway, if you use any of the sub channels then some radios will not work.

there are 14 (or 9 depending on the radio) channels and up to 32 sub channels which are really just DTMF tones that kick the radio on or not if it hears them. If we use sub 0 then all can listen.

I'd love the FRS radios to work if they would, indeed, work but getting one into everyones' hands would be tough. If they can be heard on the FM channels, I'm surprised because the frequency bands for FRS I've seen are in the 400+MHz range, not 88-108MHz.

I should have an AM transmitter. If you don't have AM reception in your Smart, see if you can find a portable radio.

AM will work! anyone out near there that can roll through the band and find an AM channel that will be clear for John to set up his Radio will be great!

I had a friend check between 810 and 910 because I thought there was a huge hole. A station at 860 comes in clear but it seems like there are several points in that range that will work. 840 AM, perhaps. 890?

Watch about 125 Smart Cars (you know those funny little euro-cars that can barely fit two people and no luggage other than your wallet) rally down the windy bit of Lombard Street early on Saturday morning. The purpose of this meet is to rally together all of the smart cars in Northern California and have a big photoshoot. Event is free to watch, if you have a Smart Fortwo you can join the rally (and a lunch aftwerwards) for $20.

Good idea - one thing though, they send out to a huge email list and I'll bet others (like me actually) often never click through to the event on the site as all the info is in the email already.
