DIY - it's pretty simple. Or, any good service place can do it; you'll probably have to supply the oil filter (and maybe the oil if they don't have Mobil 1.)
Don't sweat the oil - any full-synthetic gasoline engine motor oil of the proper viscosity for your range of climate, and that is API SM and/or ACEA A3 or above will do. One that is also ILSAC GF-4 is even better.
Yah, smartUSA pushes only Mobil 1 0W-40 for their own particular reasons, but Daimler/Mercedes/smart themselves currently specify 84 different oil formulations and viscosities from 58 different international suppliers for the current smart North American M132 (Mitsu 3B21) engine (M-B Sheet 229.5, updated 04 AUG 09). Mobil 1 0W-40 is only one of the big bunch.

Reason: change word order
Its a car, It has a Drain Plug, Filter, Dip Stick and Oil Fill cap.
Any place that knows what a car is can do it, Just make sure they have or you bring your own filter.
Plenty of vendors here that carry them.
YEP, do it yourself. Just did mine last night and it really WAS easy! Everything is VERY accessible from the rear of the car: filter and drain plug. And the oil filler cap and dip stick are right there on TOP of the engine and as easily accessible once the engine cover is removed.
GET DIRTY....DO IT!
P.S. with the proper tools and patience, you really won't even get that dirty.
You can do it yourself. I even supervised a 70 year old lady doing a DIY oil change on her Smart so I know you should be able to do it.
Always look around for loca club support as well if you are unsure for your first oil change. That way you can have someone watch over you the first time if you're unsure of yourself.
Maxwell got new oil and filter TODAY in the garage. My 11 year old "helped" so it took an hour instead of 30 minutes, but the learning and time together - priceless.
Anyway, Mobil 1-108 filter and 3.7 qts of 5W-30 and we are back in business. There are other threads on DIY oil changes but the only real stumbling blocks are the HUGE drain plug (15/16") and the TINY filter, which may require a new filter tool.
If your looking to an alternative ot the dealership, I service smart cars here at the shop and turbocharge them I'll be happy to change your oil while you wait. I use a filter larger and longer then the factory one but it's not long enough to be sticking out underneith the vehicle. My shop is in Burlingame or I can drop my car off to you and take yours and return it back to you
For those with aftermarket turbos, you should know that in the case of the smart factory turbo Euro pulses and Brabus, the nominal oil change interval is reduced from 20,000 km to 16,000 km.
