....not to rain on your parade, but here goes.
Vegas is a an 8 hour drive for me (SF Bay Area). That is, of course, too far for a casual day trip. That's not to say I wouldn't come if it looked like there was critical mass....
But if there was to be a serious attempt on a world's record, I don't think Vegas is the place. Cut me a little slack and stay with me.
To get maximum participation, you need to be able to include the greatest number of people who would consider attending that could make it a day trip. Without knowing where all the smart owners are in the US, it is a little bit hard to know where that might be, but if you use the number of dealers in an area as a proxy, it is easier.
If you look at smart USA's dealer map, there are 10 dealers within about a 5 hour drive from Vegas. In fact, there is one dealer in Vegas, and all of the other nine are five hours (or more) away.
If you look on the other coast, though, there are 20 smart dealers within a 5 hour drive from Atlantic City. Twenty five if you increase the drive to 6 or 7 hours.
There just isn't enough smart density around Vegas for a serious run at a record, IMHO. But there is in Atlantic City.
Of course, that's no fun for those of us in paradise, aka California.
