Importing a Roadster??

Anyone have experience with bringing a foriegn car into the US?? What would it take to get a Roadster into the country??

Really, from what I've read, it's near impossible unless your bringing it in to put in a museum or somewhere you are not going to drive it.

From what I heard, you will need to take the car apart, bring it here in pieces and then assemble it here and register it as a kit car.

Probably have a better chance of getting struck by lightning in a thunderstorm, on a golf course, while leaning up against a flagpole with a nine-iron in your hand.

Just get a Miata. It'll be just as small, fun, and far cheaper as the price of importing would be astronomical compared to anything you can get here.

there is no way to privately import a non complying car to the US any more.

Didn't someone post recently about successfully importing a cdi from Canada and went through the steps to do it? I think it was going to Texas, but I can't find the post. It must've been in the last two weeks or so...

Yes, it's on Club Smart Car. I put a post on there asking how his importer got around the EPA regulations, haven't heard anything back.

Found another one, registered in Mississippi. Not sure how this happens; seller does say it may not be register-able (if that's a word) in all 50 states - no kidding! Still confused as to how they get around the federal requirements.
