Ever in Europe, the roadster was significantly more expensive than the 450-451 when it was sold (2003-2006) new.

The first model (basic roadster 61 BHP) was around 18.000 euros and the higher model (roadster coupe Brabus 101 BHP) was near 28.000 euros !

BTW, it is a car that is really a leasure car, compared with the standard 450/451 model :
- Electric softop
- Removable window arch (?)
- Front trunk
- Large alloy wheels and tires (205/50x15 to 225/45x17)
- No electronic speed limit

and much more !

Actually, a nice 82 BHP roadster coupe with 30.000 km (18.000 miles) costs around 10.000 euros (13.500 USD) in Europe. We can find cheaper ones, but they have more kilometers !!! It also depends on the model you look for : basic is not same price as the Brabus !

I would have bought a roadster over a fortwo if given the choice.

There would have to be loopholes involved in that!

For those curious, the "1 year" law is applicable to vehicles imported for racing and demonstrations, at least that's why the law was written. And, for some reason, Florida apparently has lax laws regarding importing cars, I know of at least for Mitsubishi Evolutions that are older than the allowed models.

I have only briefly looked into doing this. I'd love to bring a forfour into this country. Is there anyone that can point someone to more information on how to do this titling as a kit car?

It has been posted that the 'kit-car' loophole has been closed down. You need to bring the car in to a licensed importer to make sure all the needed mods are done (by them) and pay for it. Could cost more than the car did.

Yep, loophole closed

Buy it overseas, take it to a licensed importer. And now you just sit back and enjoy conversion costs. Although I'd probably go for it if it's a rare car or you have a passion for smart... (like me )

Racnxgt3,

interested in your comment about being able to drive the car for a year -- can you direct me to this document?

Many thanks, L
