17 rims vs MPG

ok, the smart comes with 15s which account for it's MPG when you buy it. Now, what I am wondering, since you go to 17s, which look cooler, but they also cover more miles then the 15s per revolution. It is not much, but it does add up. What I was wondering is where the milage is being read from? Kind of wondering if the car is being read from the tranny like most, and if so, then maybe the speedometer might be off and you would be getting more MPG then the 15s. So, if any of you out there have swapped. Have you tested this theory??

Would love to see some theory or even proven answers. Thanks.

Hi, i had 15"s on my 451 Passion 84bhp and i did the fill the tank, use it and fill it again test and i got 40mpg with the 15"s, i did the exact same test even using the same filling station with the 17"s on and i got exactly the same 40mpg. I weighed the alloys prior to putting them on the
15s were 12.7 kg and the 17s were 15.9 kg.

Thanks for the results. Do to the physics aspect of the rims, was curious if the MPG made much difference. Due to the fact that they MPG was same or very close, depends on driving habits. The speedometer might be close to 1mile off either way.

Thanks again for the info.
