Alignments????

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but has anyone thought about alignments? i just lowered my car on eibach springs and was thinking about getting it realigned in case its off from pulling out the suspension. Can a smart car be aligned on the regular racks? Is it too short? is this something only a dealer may be able to do?

Will a dealer bring your car in a service bay with a modified suspension?
I've known some dealers that won't change a wiper blade on a modified car.

I guess the question is what are the "correct" settings for your car with lowered aftermarket springs?

No, just guessing the standard factory alignment settings won't be the best for your lowered suspension. It will take more than your neighborhood alignment shop to sort that out IMHO.

o hehehe... camber im sure wont be applicable..the rest should be adjustable.....but im more worried about finding someone with a rack it will work on....my friends says it might be too narrow for his rack and it might fall through..another friend says its too short to get it to fit on his rack....

I wanted to put more caster in to make it more stable in the wind and since I have P.S. more caster would help this. The since this isn't a double wishbone the top is non adjustable and it didn't look too easy to shim or adjust the bottom, but that was a quick glance.

First, the rear end is not adjustable in any way , not even toe .
The front has a very small amount of adjustment because the four bolt holes in the front lower assembly are larger than the bolt diameter and therefore can be slid
around for small amounts of caster and camber. Toe is adjustable at the tie rods. So, you might be able to adjust the camber difference by sliding the assembly left or right as far as possible. <****->
It might be possible to enlarge the holes for greater adjustment , but I doubt that any dealer would do it. Maybe an independent suspension company.
The 451 fits my rack with very little to spare. It is the latest Hunter scissor lift with the 'paddle mirror' system (DSP600)

Some myths...

Some truths...

the rear deDion from the factory is set (fixed) in toe and camber

camber on the rear can not be changed it is engineered into the hub brace

however rear toe can be changed is you remove the rear trailing links and install adjustable links

Front toe is adjustable DUH

There are sources for eliptical lower strut/hub bolts that allow -3 to +3 degrees of camber adjustment

front castor can not be changed

most Euro Tuners that lower the suspension are setting all angles and toe to factory spec... some add a few seconds of toe in

most lowering by spring change is only in the 25mm (.9 inches) or 35mm (1.3 inches)range...

this minescule ride height change doe not significantly change any dimension for castor, camber, or toe ...well not enough to make any difference

There are full coil over kits with full adjustability for ride height, pre load, plus shock absorber rebound and compression ratios, .... the kits I see can lower up to 45mm (1.75 inches)...
