Best tire option for 17" Speedy's on stock suspension

Hey guys, I've read through all the threads on tire size, but I still don't have a clear answer.

I just got a beautiful set of 17"*6.5" and 17"*7" speedy lorinser wheels, and want to put as much tire between me and the road, on stock suspension, as possible.

What I gather is that 215/40r17 on the back and 205/40/17 on the front is probably my best bet. I found Continental brand ContiExtremeContact models on tirerack with great prices in these sizes. Tigerwong says 225 width tires on the 7" rear wheels are too wide and cause the sidewall to distort. anyone have this experience with the 215/40r17 on a rear 17*7 rim?

Tigerwong also says his 205/40r17 fronts rub the fenderwell...but does anyone run this size on a stock suspension setup? I'm wondering if it will rub on my factory springs....

I could always go safe, with the Lorinser recommended 195/40r17 in the front, and 205/40r17 in the back, but I'd like to put a bit more rubber on that huge wheel.

any thoughts or advice would be great! thanks!!!

well, if anyones interested, I went with 205/40R17 sumitomo's in the front, and 215/40R17's in the back. I'm very happy with them so far....although I wish the rear tires were just a tad wider! they kinda lean "in" on the sidewalls...

but, more importantly, they fill the wheel wells nicely with the stock suspension.

We sell Lorinser wheels and have them on one of our smarts. We have them on Yokohama S-Drive tires. Fronts are 205/40-17 and the rears are 225/35-17. We now recommend 195/35-17 and 225/35-17.

With the 195's you still have a filled look, but reduce the chance of rubbing at high speed turns. In addition, we would suggest a set of springs. We used to have Eibachs on ours and it just did not sit right or handle right to us. It was soft and the other option was the H&R's which did not have a very nice ride. Instead we went with our own set up and that made a huge difference.

So, whether or not you are going to put a set of springs on or not we would recommend the above sizes. You could also do a 215/35-17 on the rear if you want a more stretched look. We have done as well, but you are stretching the tire a bit.

If you use Eibach springs you have to set the bottoms of the springs at the six oclock position. That would be looking down on the spring from the top standing at the rear of the car. If you put the end of the spring on the bottom at say 2 o'clock and the other at 6 o'clock the car will definitely sit at two different heights from right to left side. I called Boris and he said I put them in wrong but didn't know this. I got the number for Eibach from him and they were the ones who told me how to set the springs up. I got them in the right way and now they are beautiful. The ride is nice and tight and not to stiff. I wanted to set the car level to the ground so I went with the Breathless Spacer Blocks so that the car would not drop to much in the front and at the same time it picks up the travel and won't let the shock bottom out. You'll have to do some work on the spacer blocks to get them to fit right. They were thought out but not done correctly. Its not to bad of a job. A file or a dremel tool will get you through it. This will also keep the tires from rubbing at speed. If you drop the front end and offset the height of the car from front to rear you should be drag racing. If your road racing and want handling you want to keep the car level from front to rear. That keeps the center of gravity(or zero gravity) equal throughout the car.

I had 195s in the front and 225s on the rear on my Speedys and the look was perfect. Definitely go with a big tire in the back. The car actually feels more solid on the highway too. It is a noticeable difference.

What width 17" wheels are you running (same as mentioned above?) and is there an affect to the speedometer reading?

We are running 6 1/2 on the front and 7 on the rear and do not notice any affect on the speedometer.
