Front tire 155/60/15 and steel wheel. Mounted and shipped to my home in A2 Michigan, Total came to $213.70 , It's done at last.
Now the funnies: This is the main Smart HQ Bloomfield dealership mind you, Smart USA HQ is just down the street. After talking to to the service manager our rep came up with a price of $325, rim only, no stock ,nor any Idea of when they might get such a thing.
But not to worry . Even though they have no tires or rims, If we would buy their Tire and Rim Insurance plan (for $345 for 5 years) they would send out a flatbed truck and rush our car back to the Dealership, which has no rims or tires and knows not if, or when they might get one.

A2Jack
Front wheel and tire smaller so makes sense for spare. They are sure the slight difference in offset won't be a problem mounting on rear?( it is so small that it shouldn't).
I actually got the tire insurance, but worked a deal for just $150 if I took their financing instead of my bank ( and it was cheaper financin too ). But not for the towing. I've been through 11 tires on MINI Cooper from pothole, nails in sidewall, nails in runflats that can't be fixed. Besides that , the smart rims are "part of the safety system" and I am a little worried they may be collapsible in some way and more prone to damage in potholes (and we have plenty here in NE). I still expect to get either the spare as you configured, or a full set of winter tires and rims and use one of them as a spare on long trips.

A2Jack
did you notice any cars missing a wheel and tire in the showroom ?
karl
I ordered the same package as A2Jack from Tire Rack. Even though I will probably only be using the smartie around the DC area the peace of mind of being able to "just change a tire" and be back in operation is worth the expense. BTW, at delivery I got the Tire & Rim insurance plan based on my recent experience of spending $800 to replace 2 run-flats on a newer BMW. This just after replacing a couple tires on my son's Mazda because of all the crap on the roads.
I was able to ID a 155x60 and alloy wheel for $215 with shipping and balancing. I could not find a steel alternative on the Tire Rack site. Does anyone have a link?
Just because I like you guys and your quest for the spare tire, here's a photo of a Mercedes jack from the E class that should work for the smart as well:

Still looking for the part #.
The similar jack supplied with the forfour (454) is p/n #A4545800118. It includes the wrench which may or may not be the 15mm required for the fortwo.

KySmart You are right. the wheel from Tire Rack is a 6 spoke alloy. A real good looking wheel. Brand is Rial. Tire is Continental
I figured it would be steel at that price ($136) but a magnet wont stick, so it must be a Duck! You even got a better deal.

Jwght. Thanks, but I'll bet that E class jack would cost an arm and a leg. I plan to use the little Jack from a Festive (1 dollar at your favorite bone yard) and a round block of wood to fit in the jack point hole.
