Which is the correct 17 inch wheel setup

Hello all this will be my first post as I am a smart noob. I am currently looking to upgrade my wheels and suspension on my smart and wanted to ask a couple of questions to those of you who may have already done so.

I'm looking to purchase a set of 17 inch wheels with the 3 to 5 lug pattern adapters and finally I will be purchasing a set of H&R springs to lower the car.

I've been reading post after post and I have a couple of questions. First why do some people use a 35 height tire in the rear instead of using 40's all around second what is the best offset to use on the wheels I've added 20mm with the adapters so what would be a good fit without rubbing and finally can I use a 8 width in the front instead of the 7.5? Thanks in advance for any help.

A 35 series tire is sometimes used in place of a 40 series to keep the diameter down. The sidewall height is figured as a percentage of the tread width.

ET40-ET50 in a 7.5" wheel should be fine.

As far as 8" wheels on the front....ONLY IF THE OFFSET ALLOWS. I have 7.5" wheels on the front of my car and have the minimum clearance that I feel I can safely run. I am about 1/2" from contacting the strut housing with my tire.
