donnyonee, the repair kit has a compressor with gauge. It's located under the glovebox. With a can of "goo". The compressor can be used without the goo.

We hit a pot hole and got the Smart home before the tire went down - sure enough the tire went down in the drive way.
The repair kit worked great i just plugged in the pump and attached the goo to the pump and swithed it on - next thing I know the tire pressure starts to come up and I can see the goo leaking out the perforated tire. I took it for a shot 3 min drive to run the goo arround the inside of the tire then checked the pressure again and put a few more pounds in and drove it down to the dealer about 50 miles away. They replaced the tire for $100 including fitting and balance and $60.00 for new goo that we discoved you can on line for about $20.00.
In short the Smart solution worked great and very easy to do

I have a spare steel wheel with a 125/15 tire in a polyester carrying bag that I made with a zippered center pouch where the wheel is indented. In there I carry a small bottle jack, gloves, tire wrench. It all fits perfectly behind the driver seat. Easy solution.

Your sales person should have shown you where everything was located.

Where did you get the spare rim and tire at? Your solution sounds like a great idea

I bought a front steel rim from the dealer for about $80. The tire is a firestone from Coker tire and is a size (125-15) from the old VWs. The tire is a bit taller (1/2") so I hope it doesn't interfere with the electronics. If I have a flat I will drop some pressure fron the tire to make the rolling dia. smaller. You could also use a stock front tire but I wanted the narrowest option. I built the bag myself but there is a source here from "the bag lady" (do A search).

The jack is from Northern Tool and I am using a breaker bar with a 15mm deep socket for a lug wrench. The whole package is in my opinion a great solution.

I travel to Europe every now and then, and on my last trip I bought a 15" front wheel for 30 euros. It fit in my suitcase. I put a GM 15" port a spare tire on when I got home.
Replaced the 15mm lugs with VW 17mm lugs now 11/16 4way works and a scissors jack from a Toyota complete my set. I only carry it when I travel out of town.
Had a laugh at the airport when they X-rayed the suitcase!

Have any of you folks actually USED your jack with a flat tire to see if it will fit under the frame rail in that lowered condition? I tried a small bottle jack and it works OK but I don't think it would work without "diggin a hole " when the tire is actually down flat.
The typical scissor jack needs almost 6" when "flat" and I'm thinkin one needs the type that goes down to about 3.5" to get under the car in extremis ....

just wonderin... ;-)
