Murdered Genius

I have fallen in love with my car for a second time. Currently all I have done is the 17" Genius wheels and B&G 1" drop. Next is JL under dash sub and double DIN DVD/NAV.

Have you considered blacking out the chrome inside your headlight lenses? That's a popular mod for owners of black vehicles who like the "murdered out" look. Most guys just bake the headlights to soften up the sealant and remove the clear plastic lenses. It looks great most of the time...

Yes actually...but I have a slightly different plan. I am going to "tint" the inside housings so it will have a black chrome look. I just want it to be a little different. I'm also going to tint all the emblems.

I am doing this on my other car too. I'll post pics as soon as it's done.

Does blackening the chrome behind the headlights affect the light output from the headlights enough to make it tough to see at night? I have contemplated this and can't decide if I should do that or just use headlight covers and remove them at night. Also wodering about local laws on thios. (Minnesota)

No...well at least not on a Smart car. The projector beam is not affected in any way. On my Suzuki i will have to mask off the reflective portion of the housing, otherwise it would reduce the light output.

Jim,

repainting the chrome black isn't an issue legally and won't affect your light output.

Smoking the headlight covers on the other hand can be an expensive no no depending on where you live. Florida troopers are anal about it. I've heard some horror stories from So Cal as well... You actually get a better effect when you take the time to repaint the interior black... you can't see the lense most of the time.
