No magic nor secret sauce on the jack.

Just pick up any small scissors jack from your favorite bone yard, glue a hockey puck to the top, and WALLAH! (I used JB Weld for the glue)
(Jack shown is from a Ford Festiva cost $1. Hockey puck upgrade not shown).

Hockey puck? LOL, easy in Michigan! Maybe snatch the one off of my windshield?

Help. I have had my Smart, bright yellow, for two coupe, for 8 mos and I love it. I made it through the Maine winter. A few days ago I got a flat in the left rear tire. I was in a hurry and drove 3 miles on the flat and that ruined the tire. I have a floor jack and managed just barely, using a long handled 15 mm wrench to get the wheel off. Our local tire guy got a new tire for me so I am back in business.
If I had a compact spare tire, I could have changed it in 10 minutes and got to my appointment on time. It turned out that the tire had
a knife blade in it and I doubt that the sealant cannister would have worked.
I guess I am old fashioned. I want a spare tire and wheel.
Where can I get one?? How much should I expect to pay. Help.
Many Thanks.
Mark Wheeler in Maine.

I bought my spare from tirerack.com ... along with a wrench and bag, total cost mounted, balanced and shipped was $226.48. They only sell the bags in pairs, so I've got an extra bag if anyone is interested.

That price DID include the extras ... wrench and bags. I also bought a deep 15mm socket from Sears for 8.48 with tax.

Mark, there have also been folks selling their stocks on this forum and on eBay. Not compact spares, but spares nonetheless. I (and others on this forum) have a full sized front s from Tire Rack and it fits behind the driver's seat.

Well, I'd just like to say, "behind the driver's seat" doesn't work for me. I tried it. I'm only 5'7" and with the wheel behind the driver's seat I was cramped. Mine will reside behind the passenger seat.

It must depend on your leg length, preferred driving position and such. I'm 5'10'' and it's comfortable for me and other posters taller than me have reported the same. BTW, the other issue that came up frequently regarding the compact spare was what do you do with it once you've had to use it. I gather that from the posts that you can't collapse them again so you're either left with a full size spare or the need to purchase another compact one.
