[QUOTE=WJReiss4;41227]Giant- What size and brand tire are you using? That rear wheel needs a W-I-D-E tire

just wondering
Haven't purchased tires yet will probably use 195/40 front 225/35 rear x17 a couple of different choices @tire rac and others. Would like to go alittle wider but don't know if there will be clearance problems with stock fenders. Will eventually go with a wide body kit hopeing some one will do some wind tunnel testing and not just build for looks. Also would like to buy american. 245/35 rear 215/40 would be nice but. That will be after smartuki gets the kit for the 451. Will probably use R1 motor with turbo. I know someone getting about 550hp for the 1/4 mile out of one.

Doesn't the Smartzuki kit eliminate the passenger seat? (not to mention puts loud annoying engine next to you) Unless you are using it strictly for racing I wouldn't waste my money. You'd be better off turbo'ing the stock motor and attempting to get it to 100 hp. That's 100 hp per liter and you can't complain about that.

Also, don't bet on anyone wind tunnel testing widebody fenders. First of all it's pointless because they aren't going to aid in aerodynamics and why measure how much more drag they cause? Plus, if you are going to try and have 550 hp in a Smart what do you care about drag? The thing would do 200 with a parachute.

No Spacers or Adapters

Note: Please check with you individual state laws. Spacers and adapters of any kind that did not come as standard equipment are illegal in Pennsylvania.

according to the guy in atlanta at the buckhead smart dealer, he is selling that same 17 inch wheel/tire setup for $3995. i certainly would not consider myself to be a cheap ass, BUT, no way am i dropping $4k on 17's. apparently it cost him $1500 a set in shipping costs that they need to pass on to the buyer of those wheels.

That price is ridiculous. I have the same 17" wheels for the 450 and I know you can get them for $1400 straight from Lorinser North America. Lorinser does not have a website for N. America however my local tire shop had contact info. You can also find the contact info on clubsmartcar.com. Just search lorinser. One of the posts has all the contact info. If the wheel fits both the 450 and 451 I know as of last week there were some sets on the east coast.

4k for lorinser's?
are they totally nuts?
i colud tell you only the price of the 6,5x17 / 7x17 set with tyres - that's about ( as you can see here in this ebay-auction) 1400 euro. that's about 1730 dollars - a littlebit far away from 4000...

@ august8pm:
as you can see it wasn't very difficult to fit them on our members car. like i said he got the 7x17 ET15 around with 215/35R17 - he ordered the wheels directly at lorinser, because he works in this business. ;)

Despite the drop in the US$, I think I can still fly to Europe myself and hand carry those wheels back!
