Yes I have spacers mine were sent to me saying the would fit without spacers to my surprise they did not fit
I think Xtatik is probably gonna fix this oversight in their new wheels, since a wheel made specifically for the Smart shouldn't need spacers. But, I didn't want to wait and I appreciated the discount I got on the wheels. Plus, the spacers are quality custom-made and hub-centric, so it's not like I'm compromising ride-quality, and some other aftermarket wheels require or make-use-of spacers anyway.
Overall, the car drives great and I am really happy with the wheels.
Xtatic came to us and asked us to distribute their wheels. At the time of our order we were told the wheels were a perfect fit for the smart. Once we placed an order and received them we found the offset was a bit off.
After debating with us for a while and assuring us that the wheels fit they finally took a look at babybenz wheels and agreed that the offset was a bit off. Instead of including a set of generic $10 spacers like Xtatic suggested we decided to have a custom set done that were hub and wheel centric. We wanted to make sure the wheels would fit right and the spacer would not be an issue.
The spacers are machined by the same individual that does work for Jesse James, so the quality is top notch.
We did not want to use stock bolts since they were not long enough, so we sourced longer ones and cut them down a couple of mm to make sure the fit is just right.
Due to the fact that some of the wheels require spacers which is an added expense we decided to reduce the price on all the Xtatic wheels and blow out all the wheels we have in stock. We will continue to offer them once our stock is depleted, but on a drop ship basis only.
If you are thinking about waiting until Xtatic brings out new wheels with proper offset I would guess to say the wait will be long. They still have a large number in stock.
Sorry, boys, grinding down lug bolts, nuts, or any part of that system to make a wheel fit is wrongheaded. A proper spacer or adapter is one thing, longer or shorter bolts or nuts will work, but modifying a bolt that you know nothing about (such as whether the thread is rolled, cut, or heat treated) that holds on a wheel is bad news. Getting the proper one would take only time...... is your life not worth that?

The only thing I would worry about is damaging threads with a cut bolt, but are you seriously thinking they'll fail due to the cut?
Anyone else with expertise in this area wanna chime in?

Could you please inform us of the thickness of these spacers with Extatic wheels. I see them several availiable sizes. Which thicks works best?

You could get away with 5mm spacers, but they would not be hub/wheel centric and I would advise against this for safety. We recommend 10mm spacers for the front. We have them available and they are hub/wheel centric.

Smart Madness ordered new bolts and put 'em on for me (and I didn't even have to ask). Great follow-up. It was good to see everyone again. Those springs are calling my name (and the exhaust, lambo-doors, floor-mats, cold-air intake, Kenwood GPS/iPhone interface CD player, etc. etc.)
