I would have gotten the Generals except there was 4 inches of snow on the ground at the time! 195/50 x 15 tires transform the samart don't they. I drive 120 miles a day it it is now enjoyable. The Kumho ASTs are working great and haven't worn a bit in 3000 miles. It's a shame that Penske won't offer a tire/wheel option from the factory like in other countries.

Snow is not a major consideration for me, even though I Ski Patrol at a nearby area several days a week all winter. I have a 4WD Burb with all terrain snows on it for when the going gets tough. I put the Generals on my wife's Impala last year and they have been very good in the dry and wet, and will get you home in minor snow in spite of not being an all season tire. I have HPerf Kumhos on the Corvette and if I move it onto the driveway in snow or ice, it has to be pushed back into the garage! My son has Kumho M&S tires on his 4WD pickup and swears by them. So ---- get the tires that match your needs, and rely on the Tire Rack reviews. They have not led me astray yet.

Hi everyone, im new to SMOA I was just curious, do you need to made any modifications to the car if you put Kumho's on like P1nball has? and can you use the stock rims? I was always told you cant use larger tires in the front because it will rub against stuff and cause issues, granted it was someone at the dealership that told me :P I just wanted to make sure because i was thinking about ordering a set and just putting them on the stock rims if it was possible, Great looking car!

Welcome!

You can put larger wheels and tires on the front of the car easily. I've been running 15x6 Rial wheels and 195/50 R15 tires on my car for nearly 40K miles now. Many owners buy a set of used rear rims and put those on the front as well. You can find a lot more information here:

Are YOU a Member of the "I Can Rotate My Tires Club"? - Smart Car of America Forums : Smart Car Forum

But... The general consensus is that the stock front wheels are too narrow to safely fit much larger tires. Some have run the 175/55 rear tires on the front rims, but that is really pushing the limit of what it's designed for.

I have 195/50/15 Kumho's on stock rear Passion wheels all around and they work great! There's a slight mileage drop but it might be the weather changing that caused it, colder air = less mileage. What part of Illinois are you from, Fishrailroad?

On another note, when i went to leave the gas station tonight, i put it in D and it said D on the display.. but i was going backwards..? anyone else had something like that happen? ive heard of it being stuck in neutral but not D and going in reverse, i put it to park and turned the car off n back on and it was normal, kinda freaked me out a bit tho, could just be the subzero temps messing it up a lil tho? I can only hope with the nearest smart dealership being 3 hours away lol
