Smart vs. Pothole...

I nailed a pothole last weekend - results below. Also, the shock broke the headlight from it's mounting - another $264 plus labor. FYI, tire and wheel warranty does not cover the sensor ($101) or taxes. Oddly, the wheel didn't apppear damaged from the visible side.

Be careful while happily motoring

i wonder how many smart dealers, when they were pushing the tire and wheel warranty on their unsuspecting client, reminded that client that taxes and the $100 sensor would not be covered by the warranty?

my guess. zero.

The cost of the warranty was covered with one mishap. My brother insisted that I take the warranty - I've never had to use a warranty before so this one was welcome. Freewheeling from now on pun intended...

Best,

How deep / wide was the hole? Your speed? (Don't care about posted speed!)

Hi Suze! Looks like it took a real whack in a sharp hole. You have to compress the tire, then deform the rim to the point where it fails. I know it happens, and there is a lot of force on the wheel, but I'd hate to see the factory wheels failing. Since (I believe) this is the first post, I won't start screaming for a RECALL just yet!

There's a small pothole I must hit every morning. Easy enough to avoid, but, Noooo, bump-bump every day. I'll learn some day! (Maybe I'll fill it in with fast set concrete!) (not..)

Is it just me, or does that wheel look pretty thin all the way around compared to other alloys. I think the metal used in our Mini 12 inch alloy wheels is thicker than that.

Could be the angle of the break & photo, can't tell. I'm curious how hard it hit. Assuming its a front, that was probably a pretty wild ride. You'd have had to be pretty quick to notice the pressure loss sensor alert!!

We're looking at the back side of a stock rim, right?

- I avoid ALL bumps and potholes - even try to drive around manhole covers when I can. Sometimes just the crosswalk paint can give you a pretty good jolt!

Yeah, that's the back. Bet the air came out fairly quickly... Must have lost a few fillings in his teeth!
