Stock Wheels - Chromed

Well, I got my stock wheels back; polished and chromed, and they look great! About the only thing I may do now is change the lug bolts for studs and use polished nuts. Anyone had any experience with stud kits on a Smart? While the car was down, I also painted the brake calipers and rear drums...

painting calipers! Can anyone post a play by play on this project? I've changed brakepads but have never disconected a brakeline.

Not trying to steal your thread, but I am curious about costs. I just sent my stock wheels for powder painting locally. Cost me $553.90 for all four rims, chemically stripped, painted, baked and I have a few left over pounds of a matching white since it doesn't take that much to do all four. In March I was quoted $475 each at the Louisville dealer and thought - way too high, so I went locally. But of course the dealer dismounted, pulled tires and reinstalled and I am doing all that myself. I read some where on here that someone had theirs powered for $74 each and I know that will vary by areas.

I just thought your thread might start a sticly for those interested in changing the color of stock wheels or chroming and they would know the price ranges so they aren't ripped off. Well at least too bad.

Russ, with all the labor, dismounting, stripping, polishing, chroming, remounting, etc, etc, it was just a few bucks more than what you paid. I really like the chrome! Bought Harley bolt covers today, that helps. There are no cores available yet, so had to put the Smart on stands for 5 days. I have exchanged stock wheels for chromed wheels for other vehicles and they usually run me about $80 each...

Dan, grandma Nancy took pictures and as soon as one of the grandkids shows up we'll try to post a few pic's. Gotta tell you, the stock wheels, polished and chromed, really look good...
