Strange Tire Pressure

This morning, I noticed the tire pressure sensor light was on. The ride felt fine. At the first stop sign, I hopped out to take a quick look. Everything seemed fine. When I got to work, I looked for nails or screws in the tires. Nothing.

Now, I had just checked the tire pressures a little over a week ago, and they were all set to the standards listed on the door label.

I cleared the light and on the way home it popped on again. I finally got out the tire pressure gauge and found that each tire had oddly differing pressures. The back tires were HIGHER than I had inflated them to last week by almost 5 psi.

The front tires were another story. The right tire was 2 psi over, and the left tire was 7 psi over. What the hell?

Can the VERY hot and humid weather here in the Albany/Schenectady/Troy area of New York State have affected the tire pressure?

Since I balanced out all the numbers, the warning light has stayed off.
What the hell happened?

What you said!! Temperature and humidity will have an effect on tire pressure, but unless there is a leak, it should be proportional. I would check pressures daily, at the same time of day or more appropriately, the same temperature. The tires should not have been run on before checking. Let us know what you find.

Yes! Because the tires are small in size and hold very little air volumn they will react to temp changes with greater swings than your typical larger vehicles.

The sun on the day you checked the pressures. We've had some pretty intense heat here in Albany for early June....

Another reason for nitrogen fill...not the great pressure swing here in Florida.

it's great if you're in the business of selling nitrogen!

This has been discussed before, but....

I have to comment on this one.

Nicholas....ALL gases EXPAND when heated bar none. The air used in a tire has only 20% less N2 concentration than "4- 9's" N2 from a bottle along with a slight amount of water vapor if the air isn't dried...not enough advantage to say so in my opinion and surely not worth what they will charge for it....that's a fact Jack.

Keep your life uncomplicated....use AIR!

Understand the reasoning...using 95% nitrogen that has been ran thru a dryer system. Just my liking...Thanks anyway!

I've checked the pressure twice daily past two days. No change in pressure.
All seems OK. I don't know how I got 4 very different readings the other day.
