Heavy snow still has not arrived in NE North Dakota, so I have not had a real chance to drive my SMART in real winter conditions, but I can make suggestions about tires based on prior experiance.
I don't know of any "stud-able" tires available in the proper sizes. Studded tires did work well way back when, but that was before we had modern snowtires like the Blizzacks and Snowcontrols
They were also noisy and somewhat rough riding. Studded tires also reduced traction on bare pavement.
In addition, the states that allowed them, only do so for certain months of the year to prevent the increased road surface wear that used to happen when they were in common use.
In short, I would suggest the Bridgestone Blizzacks with the Snow Controls my second choice.
I believe that I saw that Continental also is now making an interesting looking snow tire now, but I do not recall the name of it right now and have no personal experiance with them.
