I know it may disable the pressure sensors, but it's purpose is to SEAL the tires immediately upon puncture. It also prevents slow leaks which is a primary reason to have the pressure sensors in the first place. $50 for a gallon (128 oz). Need 36 oz to do four tires on a smart. The primary emergency focus of the sensors is to help prevent a flat through a notification system that says "Hey, get out of your car and put some tire sealant in your tire before it goes flat!" Then, take the tire to a tire shop and remove all that sealant you just put in so the sensors will work again. Compare that process to the Ultraseal solution. Put the Ultraseal in your new tires. Run over any screw or nail that is up to 1/4" diameter, and it immediately seals your tire upon puncture, from the inside out. It is not flammable. It is water based. It is used by each vehicle in the US Post Office Fleet. At the cost and purpose of the pressure sensors, it would seem that Ultraseal would at least offer a fair option. At least worth a thought.
Very funny, really. I've got 8 other motor vehicles, and none of them have this system. Never wrecked, never stranded, and never ever even thought of suing anyone over tire failures (0) due to low pressure. My one and only blowout was in 1972, in a '62 Corvair. Going around a curve. At 60. Rear tire. I survived, as did the 'Vair. This is simply something like cellphones, every one wants it, no one really needs it.
While traveling home from California in my 2001 Beetle Sport, I lost the right rear due to a sidewall failure. I drove home (285 mi) on the down sized spare and had to order tires as no one stocked the 18" Pilots that were on it. The only place I've found the Continentals is at Tire Rack. I bought a Rial wheel 15X5 and Contiprocontact 155X60 15 as a spare. It happens and always at the most inconvenient time - Rain, night, in a hurry, middle of nowhere!! I like the TPMS but will always carry a spare.
I think in this case it was intended to make buyer more comfortable about not having a spare tire, but I do agree people are too lazy.
Belive you are mistaken, the things are required on all cars sold starting this year think Firestone / Exporer debacle, nadda to do with no spare.

Your goverment looking out for you
Karl, I could have gone my entire life without hearing that, "my government is looking out for me". I can't wait for the day I'm running on my spare without TPMS and a cop gives me a ticket for it.

Ain't illigal YET just give them some time.

The theoretical problem is what happens if you are involved in an accident. Say even though the tire was cut during the accident, it's your word against the torrent of law school scavengers that you ignored the Fed rule to be safe and "YOU CAUSED THE ACCIDENT" and now not only are you at fault but your insurance company washes their hands of you. Sad state of affairs as the libs get more and more power and we all have to suffer as they protect us from ourselves.
At least today they said we are entitled to own guns. Not does that include sidearms, where to carry, how to store in home, car, etc.....lot's more yachts to buy and mansions to build for the lawyers working those cases.

Wow. Way to drag politics into a reasonably on topic thread.
Hopefully the thread can stay on topic and we won't have to watch a useful topic degrade into a p*ssing match about Guns, liberals, lawyers or any other tangents.
