Tire Repair & Jacks

I watched a demonstration and it said that it has a fix a flat can and an air compressor that plugs into the cig lighter. so with that you can make it to a garage

Ken Kettenbeil indicated to me that the flat tire kit on the US models only consisted of the fix a flat, no compressor included. Obviously there are mixed messages out there but he is Director of Communications for the Smart division of PAG so the info should be pretty good

'Round these parts, tire shops charge extra for pulling off any tire that's had the fix-a-flat treatment.

I say give it a few weeks and the aftermarket parts folks will have a spare tire holder available like the ones people put on SUVs.

It's already available...prolly in Canada and Europe. There's a post or two here but you'll have to search for it. I'm sure there'll be a ton of aftermarket stuff in the U.S., (as you say) in no time at all.

Spare

There is currently a thread on Clubsmartcar (CA) trying to put together a group order for the small temp spares that Three Point Motors (M-B), Victoria, BC once listed. Might be worth joining that group and throwing in with them.

Tires

Are run-flat tires not recommended?

then you gotta get a jack and lug wrench thrown in somewhere. the Fix-a-flat is not a big deal unless you are traveling across the desert and that's what RSA or AAA is for. one of my last higher end cars (don't remember if it was an S4 or M3) did not come with a spare either. included a fix a flat kit in the trunk (to save weight).

Because two out of my only three flats in the past umpteen years were discovered in my driveway, I won’t be humping a spare, though I would like to have one in the garage. I will carry the goo and compressor kit (fits under the passenger footwell next to the battery), but I will only use it in a dire emergency. I will also carry a plugging kit, which takes up no room at all and can probably be stuck in with the goo. A good rubber plug (not the tarred hemp kind) is often a permanent repair (a goo fix is definitely not) so long as it is not a shoulder or sidewall cut, and will work on any damage that goo will. The 12V compressor will be used with the plug too.

That said, it will likely involve a jack and lug bolt wrench, which should be available through smart. The forfour came with a temp spare, small jack, and wrench. The part number for the jack and wrench is: A4545800118 . It remains to be seen if the 451 has the same or similar jack point as the 454 but my guess is that it does. I don’t know about the temp spare; that may be the same spare that Three Point Motors (M-B/smart of Victoria, BC) had.
