Tpms mia.........

I bought a full set of factory wheels/tires off Ebay. The seller stated the TPMS sensors were present. Wheels/tires show up, rubber valve stems in place. I'm ticked. Naturally I figure when I swap out the factory fronts with TPMS for the rubber valve rears, the TPMS light will blaze on. Except it doesn't. Ten miles later, still no light. So two questions. Anyone seen TPMS sensors that look like regular rubber valve stems? Or know if the sensor is completely absent if that channel of the TPMS goes dormant? Got any other ideas? OK, that's three questions........

It can take 2-4 cycles before the light will come on but it will come on in the end. Smart does not have any tpms that look like regular valve stems, how ever gm does in their Cadillac's (not sure if its more than caddys though)

Overinflate the tires by 5lbs and reset the tpms level with the reset button. Deflate the tires by about 5-10 lbs and then drive it for 15 minutes. The tpms warning only shows if your pressure drops for more than a few minutes... technical manual specifies more detail.

So can I eliminate the TPS and go with regular valve stems and not have the warning light come on?

I think that explains it. If you don't want the tpms sensors to deal with, put a piece of black electrical tape over the light to shut it up..

But, I will know that light is on under the tape and it will work on me.

Twas a long while ago. The TPMS light eventually did come on. Went back off within 2 miles after having the sensors from the stock front's installed. Just as a side note, ever complain to Ebay? Might as well throw rocks at a tank.

Thanks guys..this site just saved my butt.
I put 8 ball valve stem caps on the wifes 09 passion the end of last summer. She took it in today for its first scheduled maintenance and they saw the caps and said they would not touch them because they corrode to the stem and were 250.00 to replace if they broke..well they broke..luckily not at the dealer though..I got home from work and the wife was at her car with a flat and the valve stem core in her hand.I wasn't happy and she was pissed.Well what the dealer DIDN'T say is that the valve and sensor are 2 separate pieces. All you need to replace is the valve which snaps onto the sensor the sensor being in the tire..cost...3.00 a piece at the tire rack..althought my kid is going up to autozone first to see if they have it..they carry them for GM's with this sensor.Right now we put in a standard rubber valve..My kid said a buddy put in a rubber stem and just duct tapped the sensor in the wheel..but the wife wants it right..and she's letting me knoow its all due to my 8 ball valve caps.
