costco free nitrogen

Just for the record

Costco will give you nitrogen, if your tire is low. But they will not drain the air out and replace with nitrogen or rotate your tires. the only tire they will touch is a Costco tire (one that they sold) plus keep your recipt. because if they dont have you in the computer they will not touch the tire.

I put 125000 miles on a set of Michelin tires on my Ford Sport Trac. These tires were the replacements for the original Firestones during the Firestone recall. I guess I should have used nitrogen instead of air; I probably could have gotten 200000 miles.

125k miles!!! Did you ever think to drive it on the pavement once in a while? They must have a LOT of grassy fields around your place.

Nitrogen only makes a difference in track cars. If I run a 45 minute road course session in my track car, the tire pressure gets extreme with regular air. Nitrogen doesn't expand as much, and holds more consistent pressures. For real world driving, it is nothing more then a marketing scam to take your money.
When I pull off a track, the tire will burn your hand. Rubber even melts and hits the cars. This simply doesn't happen on a daily commute.

WOW !!

Now that's a huge step, an Expedition to a SMART.. Or did you keep the Expedition as a mobil garage for the SMART car???

Nitrogen use benefits in our tires more than outweighs the use of pumped air.PERIOD
the air that you receive at your local gas station or even your tire dealer comes from a tank that was probably drained of its water content some time ago.
The use of filters and dryers when using pneumatic tools prolongs the life of such tools by removing the moisture (water&rust particles) that will damage the turbine in the tools...
N2 is use in aviation for the same reason...remove the moisture, that at altitude, where temperatures can reach into -60*, will freeze and create a serious condition upon landing....same with your car...fill up with some "dirty air", full of water droplets,
and let it sit at below freezing temperatures and you will be in for an interesting ride,it will feel like a totally out of balance tire, and it is, because of the small piece of ice inside the tire...
On landing, aircraft tires will go to extreme temperatures, not only because of friction but by the heat transfer from the massive brakes stopping the aircraft.
The extreme temperature will make the pressure increase to dangerous levels.
Every time I hear anybody dispute the benefits of N2 in tires makes me chuckle...because they probably never experience a blow out at 150mph...

Nitrogen is simply a waste of money for a regular street going car. People want whats best for their cars and thus are receptive to marketing ploys for anything and everything. Go to any Autozone and you will find all sorts of products which have claims that have been prooven untrue, but they keep selling them because people buy into the fact that they need them. If Nitrogen was free to pump into your car, then I would say it wouldnt hurt anything to put it in there. Nitrogen is said to have a lower leak rate...though air in your tires doesnt leak out that rapdily anyway. Nitrogen just makes it so people who are lazy and dont want to take the time to check the air pressure in their cars can not worry about their tires for a "marginally" longer time. For the average automotive user nitrogen is simply not needed...but...its your money...only you can make the call. As far as I am concerned...I would rather save the money for other things and periodically check the tire pressure...which you should be doing even if you do have nitrogen in the tires.

notice the word "extreme" all throughout your reasoning why nitrogen makes sense...the average auto user doesnt ever get their tires to "extreme" conditions...ever...period.
