With the recent news that smart is going to be changing colors for '09, I know there is some concern for those of us who may be on the bubble for '08 or '09. Can those of you who have taken delivery supply configuration dates and build dates from your VIN tag? I'm only intersted in those who waited for the cars they ordered to arrive. Orphans will skew the data. I am curious to see how long it is taking smart to produce the car once confirmed. That may give those of us who want, say a yellow car, a reasonable estimate as to whether or not the car will be built before model year changeover in July.

For me (Red/Black/Leather), it was almost exactly 5 months from configuration to delivery. I configured Nov9, 07, the build date is 2/08, and I received it on Apr8, 08

As of a week ago, the data in the Delivery thread indicated that most of the current deliveries were early Nov configurations:

there have been a few mid nov configures since, but also still some late Oct ones as well. SO....4 - 5 months is the current config to delivery estimate.

Configuration was August 07, Build date was Nov 07, delivery to me was Feb 1, 2008. 5 and 1/2 months from Config to delivery.

So far it's looking like 3 month config to build. I would like to have a lot more data to confirm. If this trend hold, it looks like you will have to config this month to get an '08. So I may get lucky! Thanks to those who have replied so far.

I configured on 11/13. I have not received anything about build, ship or delivery. Yesterday the DDE said it would deliver "1/8/08 - 4/8/08" (yesterday was 4/11)!!! Today the DDE says 4/6 - 7/5. Wonder what it will say tomorrow?

I agree, then up to 2 months for shipment delivery. The latest batches of deliveries have been real close to 5 months from config to delivery...which means I should get mine at the end of June (current DDE = 4/22 - 7/21)

but have you inquired at your dealer? Based on the above your car should be built, and should be stateside!
