What I am talking about is anything above and beyond MSRP, tax, title, license and destination charge.
Please list fees that are not included in the above.
From Highest to lowest dealer rip-off add on profit. Most are called "doc fees", some are called prep fees....even a notary fee!!!

I think we should send this to Mr. Penske when we are finished so that he knows how these dealers are making him look bad on his promise. I am sure glad I do not live in Florida at the moment...even with 6 inches of snow on the ground.

Interesting post from one of the edmunds.com forums on Ohio fees, responding to a dealer post about how they are just part of the deal:

Your store charges $250 because that is the maximum allowed under state law. All other dealers in Ohio charge the same. That law has been revised three times since 1999 to raise the max from $30 to $50 to $100 and then, effective July 2006, to $250.

Have your transaction costs increased by a factor of 8 in the past 8 years? Of course not.

Don't kid yourself, this is simply state politicians bowing to the pressure/power of automobile dealers - period.

Did some research at inflationdata.com on U.S. rates from 1999-2007:

99 - 2.19 00 - 3.38 01 - 2.83 02 - 1.59 03 - 2.27 04 - 2.68 05 - 3.39
06 - 3.24 07 - 2.85

The jump in Ohio doc fees from $100 in 05 to $250 in 06 is 150%; you can see above what the inflation rate change was for those two years - it actually decreased! So, have all the info with you when it's time to settle the money and fight the doc fees. For you fellow Ohioans, remember the doc fees are taxed, so get 'em a low as possible.

The doc fees are taxed in Illinois as well. NOT taxed in Indiana.

I dont know about any other states and how they get taxed.
