It is sometimes hard to see humor on the internet, emotocons and all. I took at as a gentle ribbing. I know that Jeepster and I agreed to disagree on this issue. Given all of that....we are on a new page now, so I need to repost with the additions I have been collecting...in my spare time.

I think we should send this to Mr. Penske when we are finished so that he knows how these dealers are making him look bad on his promise. I am sure glad I do not live in Florida at the moment...even with 6 inches of snow on the ground.

about the same

Seems about the same plus of course the $645 destination charge, but the registration seems different and the doc fee is $55 everywhere else in CA.

In Georgia, because of a State law, automobile dealers use the line that "they have to treat everyone the same". So if the MBZ side charges $399 for $100,000 car, guess what a $15K car gets to pay.

Also, when you have no competition for a unique product that people will pay almost anything to get...it is a seller's market.

I think it's interesting that a lot of of the furor over dealer fees (myself included) seems to have died down now. I guess most people are just resigned to paying them since there isn't much to be done to get them changed. As always seems to be these case, the game is set up in favor of the house.

Coral Gables FL: called today. $399 dealer fee. $15 or so misc fees (tire & battery disposal). As we all know, these are just extra profit margin.

A more honest approach would be to call it "extra owner profit fee."

I tried to figure out if, as they deliver my car in a few days, there would be something to sign to confirm the deal. Pay a deposit, for instance, and get a 30 day contract (supposedly to seek financing). Then come back with cash the next day and tell them I would stretch it to 29 days unless they take away the spurious fees. Even then, however, their financing costs would be only around $150 for 30 days.

But actually not even this (weak) strategy works. Their attitude is that I basically have 10 days to complete the transaction or they'll sell the car to others.

These guys are a delight to do business with.

Hmmm. Only leverage seems to be to walk away from the vehicle. Which maybe I should.
