Anyone had luck negotiating? Mine will be $399, total rip off... Should I buck for anything, or just smile and bear it?

The dealer fees list under "Smart car news and rumors" is disturbing

. My estimated delivery is Sept/Nov 2009. I ordered/reserved my SMART Passion Coupe from the Orlando FL Smart Center. $799 is outrageous. Can anyone tell me why Orlando's fee is so high? Is it due to transporting the car from a far away port? Any comments or advice are appreciated!

Best approach would be to tell smart USA you want the car delivered at another dealer (one with lower dealer doc fees.)

Thanks jwight. The dealer keeps calling me about a orphan Smart that's similar to what I ordered/reserved. I will call today and ask them about the dealer fees and possibility of my car being shipped to another dealer.

Fort Worth, TX. Has a fee of $1314 for all the orphans. For this fee they install LoJak and tint the windows. We were told that the dealer is "required" to add these items to the orphans. They also have a doc fee of $50, state inspection fee $23.75, deputy service fee $5 (I have no idea what this is), county road fee $10. Total $1402.75. Not sure if the "ordered" cars have the Lojak and window tint or if it is just the orphans.

Well, that didn't take them long. New dealership, they must not be watching the car market. Other dealers have (or will soon) move away from this loaded orphan approach because there are plenty of orphans out there at MSRP. And no, they can't add anything to a car someone reserved and configured through smart USA.

BTW, LoJack should sell for around $600, so their window tint is going for $714!
