The smart car belongs to my husband Roger but he dislikes all computer things so I'm posting for him.
Roger was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2004. He reserved his smart car on June 27th 2007 (1273) because of the Wall Street Journal article that day.
While hospitalized for kidney failure in Jan 08 he saw a news story on TV about smart arriving in Dallas. The day he left the hospital he went to the super-duper smart center in Dallas and met Whitney Ott. He explained that he really wanted his smart car but didn't think it would arrive before he died. He told Whitney he wanted very much to own and drive the smart car and to be able to leave it to his son afterwards.
The Park Place dealership in Dallas is a customer-centric dealership which has been so accomodating. Roger got an orphaned smart car on Jan 24th and it has lit up his life.
We love the smart fortwo Passion we were privileged to receive. Roger loves it and enjoys explaining the vehicle to those who inquire about it. Ocassionaly he lets his wife and son drive it. The smart car has been better than chemotherapy for my husband, Roger!
What a poignant story Glad to hear that your dealership was so accommodating and helped you guys obtain a car in a timely manner. So happy to hear that it is bringing your husband joy amidst what must be a very difficult time.

I hope this will prolong Roger's life a little longer. I heard this story that night (1/24) when I picked up my car from the parts manager Jed. It's very touching. I hope this will give him the needed spirits to fight the cancer and be able to enjoy the car and be happy driving it and showing it to friends and strangers. This is not only a good therapy, it also will help him take his mind off the cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
