I can't believe anyone would pay 10K over MSRP for a loaded up smart!! There are several issues here, the first being re-sale value! No one is going to pay a premium for a three year old smart with $10K of add-ons. Second is insurance - We all know it doesn't take much for the insurance companies to total a smart. Does anyone believe they will pay for the added glitz? There has to be a time when a buyer puts their brain in front of their desire when buying a car!! MHO
Maybe I should have gone back and re-read BEFORE I posted. I was NOT thinking $10K over MSRP, but rather $2k - $3k for the normal nav, wheels, etc.
You are right, there are many implications that people are not thinking about when they are signing the papers that may very well end up biting them in the bum sometime down the road.
But looking forward to it. I haven't added that to my other vehicles because I didn't think the navigation issue was important to me. One of the salesman showed my the functionality of the Kenwood stereo/Nav system and I liked the features. How much will I use it? Time will tell. Actually the Nav system and a possible extended service agreement will be the biggest add on to this.
Do we know what the percentage of Pulse's they are importing?
I did not have one ordered and when I went in to test drive and said I had cash they had one orphan to buy. I originally wanted a Pure with air only. This orphan was red with black Pure with Air, premium radio10 and extra speaker package, pin striping, and tinted windows. I paid $1500 and still can't quite figure out what each thing cost. I was happy to get the car. Pures are rarer and cheaper to begin with and just fine with me. I also realize I paid over $1600 for the sound system which is crazy, but it sure is nice when I plug in my ipod. I think the red panels were extra also. Oh well, I am glad I got her!!
I saw that red in the showroom and it is really sharp. Mine is a boring white!

We went to see the Smart at a dealers and my husband said if he had his checkbook he would buy one. The dealer said they had an orphan coming in that day - red and black passion cabriolet, so we were very fortunate to be able to get it.
I am surprised no one got me on my boo boo!! I didn't pay $1500 for my smart, but paid $15,000 which after hearing others prices, seems pretty fair to me. I do wonder however, what a passion with stock stuff would have totaled. The sunroof and flippers would have been nice!
