Thank you indeed, 'Little John'.
For some reason, Daimler press page doesn't state the most recent figures as fast as you can get them.

It's somehow disappointing that this last January figure wasn't higher: remember that a year ago deliveries didn't start until mid-January... So the 177.1% increase is misleading.

Updated for February 09: 1,415.
Though the figure seems low, despite claims that it's a 28+% increase compared to a year ago. Will correct if warranted.

Hard to tell since they've never broken out the monthly sales for Jan - Mar 08.

Official Daimler statement:
Quote:
smart USA recorded 1,415 sales in February 2009. This figure represents a
28.5 percent increase over February 2008, and an 83.2 percent increase
year to date. The enthusiastic response to the smart fortwo indicates that
the micro-car segment is a viable transportation option in the U.S. The
smart fortwo offers the right balance of power, outstanding fuel efficiency,
innovative safety features, environmental friendliness and excellent value.
There are currently over 70 smart centers open in 35 states.
Of course, it'd be interesting to know how many cars were imported, vs. those sold... Meaning how many are still waiting for adoption at Dealerships...

Nice... a 1% increase over March 08? Considering 75% of the dealerships were setup and selling in March, that's great. If they can even stay flat for April and May it will clearly show they're doing well, given the downward vector for almost every other model.

- Mercedes-Benz Cars Division Sold a Total of 15,910 Units in the U.S.

- Mercedes-Benz USA Records April Sales of 14,565

NEW YORK, May 1 -- Daimler AG (stock exchange abbreviation DAI) today reported sales for the Mercedes-Benz Cars division (Mercedes-Benz and smart combined) of 15,910 units in the U.S. for April 2009. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted.

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported April sales of 14,565 vehicles, a decline of 28.1 percent over April 2008. The volume leaders for the month were the C, GLK, and M-Class with sales of 4,274, 1,869, and 1,838 respectively. On a year-to-date basis, the company sold 54,799 new vehicles, a decrease of 29.7 percent over the comparable period last year.

smart USA recorded 1,345 sales in April 2009. Year to date sales now total 6,282 units which represents a 2 percent increase versus April 2008 year-to-date sales. Since its introduction in the United States, there are over 30,000 smart fortwos traveling the highways throughout America. The smart fortwo offers the right balance of power, outstanding fuel efficiency, innovative safety features, environmental friendliness and excellent value. There are currently 75 smart centers in 35 states.

April sales of 2,683 last year to 1,345 this year. First Quarter sales of 6159 last year to 6,282 now. It looks the the trend is showing significant sales weakness this year.
