Orphan no more

What a day it was today! The wife and I were out doing errands and I decided to stop by our local smart center - San Jose, Ca - to make sure that my name was on their orphan list. I had sent an email to Steve (manager) the day they received their first shipment but wanted to verify that everything was in order. Their list is very high-tech: a regular steno pad with about 3 or 4 names and phone numbers per page. They thumbed through it and found out we weren't on it, so the nice lady said she's add us - she found an empty spot at the bottom of page 4 and said that since there was some kind of miscommunication she would add my name there. We told her we were looking for a Passion Coupe - yellow/black/beige, but would be willing to entertain any color. My wife got to sit in one of the floor models and she was blown away by the amount of room inside - she said it must be made by the same people who made the TARDIS (Dr Who anyone?!).

So, anyway, since it was raining by now we decided to head home - our reservation is a 1401 so we know we're getting our car later this year, and since San Jose is expecting about 75 cars to show up next month there is now a chance we might get a call in April, so we're happy. We get almost all the way home (about 12 miles from the dealer) and my cell phone rings. The nice lady says she has a Silver/Black/Black Passion Coupe that just got turned town - would we be interested?

Wife and I discussed it at length - about 15 seconds - and turned around. We put a $2000 deposit down and we get to pick up our little Raider (we're not even football fans!) Tuesday evening! Talk about waiting impatiently for Santa Claus!

I'll report the total cost when we take delivery - but it was stated that they do not add anything to the cost. We are so stoked!!!!!! Stay tuned!

I just wish I had some strong ramps - I'd literally pick it up by driving it up into the back of my truck!

By the way - we've got our '99 Ford F450 Crew Cab up for sale if anyone is looking for a great trailer tow vehicle!

my story was a little like yours I didn't place my order with smartusa till the day the smart tour came into town back last october ,my confernation was1392,I got an email to configure the car on 2/1/08, it stated the my car would be available late in the second half of 08,my dealer wasn't even and still isnt open,I drove down to the dealer in sarasota ,about 50 miles away ,the salesman ,said "leave me your name/number" if we get anything in that turns into an orphan ,we will call,,later that day I remembered I didn't leave my cell phone ,so I emailed ,got a responce back 2 hours later that they had a car with the equipment I wanted other than the color, I wanted the bumble bee colors (yellow/black/black leather) ,the had one in (silver/silver/black leather) by the time I received the email the dealer was closed (saturday5pm) and the were closed on sunday,I called at 8am monday and said SOLD I'll take it,I LOVE my new smart car
