Smart Car Checklist
**Make the dealer Rep. do a complete walk through with you, as if you know nothing about the car**
A. Pre-Delivery
Notify dealer of any add on: tint, powder coating, pin strip etc.
Be sure your $99.00 reservation fee is applied to the invoice.
Call dealer in advance so they don’t drill holes in the front for license plate or the rear, if your able to find your own solution.
B. The Outside
Check the panels/paint for defect and or flaws
All door latches and locks working with key fob (chirp/no chirp?)
Headlights correctly aimed
Fog lights correctly aimed
Remove front panel; make sure fluids are topped off (oil, coolant, brake fluid, windshield wiper fluid). Place panel back on.
Locate the tow hook
Gas cap on tight
If car has clear bra, check for no bubbles, no debris underneath, and no edges rolling or jagged.
Make sure tint is on correctly with no bubbles, not uneven, and not scratched or otherwise defected.
Check the orientation of the motion sensor on factory alarm system option.
Check tailgate alignment with the roof
Check that rear hatch is level.
Check to see if undercarriage (Tierod Ends) is undamaged.
Cabrio: Open and close trunk many (7) times in a row. Some have either a bad miro-switch, or spring mechanism.
Cabrio: Make sure top operates correctly
Cabrio: Make sure tridion bars come off and foam insert is in tailgate.
C. Tires/Wheels
Tire pressure set to factory spec.
Check tire balance
Check lug bolt torques (81 ft/lb)
Check wheel alignment
Reset TPMS if tire pressures were adjusted
Be aware of the factory setting tire pressure for cold tires
D. Inside
All door latches and locks working.
Horn working
Two Operational ignition keys
All installed equipment/options working properly (heated seats, rear defroster, a/c, turn signals, emergency flashers, pod clock)
Radio operation and reception (AM/FM bands)
Full tank of gas
Battery fully charged
Check the whole shifter mechanism for not only lubrication, but now loose fasteners. (Ask dealer to dismantle and check)
Owners manual and assorted booklets in place
Brakes checked and bled if necessary
Have Rep. show you location of battery
Make sure all battery/grounding cables are properly tightened down.
Check battery with 10-15 second load test.
E. Contact Information and Exit Paperwork
A list of “who to contact” at the dealership; salesperson, manager, service, parts, etc.
Who to contact (if interested) for the local smart owners chapter
“Full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, make sure it's dark, and that you're wearing sunglasses.”
