How to check for an upside down motion sensor?

About a 8 weeks (I hope) til I get the call to pick up my smartie; thanks for the helpful thread.

A question: how does one "Check the orientation of the motion sensor on factory alarm system option. (something like 20% are installed upside down...)"?

I imagine asking my two strapping sons to turn the car upside down and shake it to see if the alarm goes off won't be appreciated by the dealership...

Ok, I dont know hot to attach a file, but here is a check my WIFE made for everyone here on Smart Car of America. Below is the copy and paste, but if you want it in the checklist word format, email me at dfwsmart@me.com

A. Pre-Delivery

Notify dealer of any add on: tint, powder coating, pin strip etc.
Be sure your $99.00 reservation fee is applied to the invoice.
Call dealer in advance so they don’t drill holes in the front for license plate or the rear, if your able to find your own solution.

B. The Outside

Check the panels/paint for defect and or flaws
All door latches and locks working with key fob (chirp/no chirp?)

Locate the tow hook
Gas cap on tight
If car has clear bra, check for no bubbles, no debris underneath, and no edges rolling or jagged.
Make sure tint is on correctly with no bubbles, not uneven, and not scratched or otherwise defected.
Check the orientation of the motion sensor on factory alarm system option.
Check tailgate alignment with the roof
Check that rear hatch is level.
Check to see if undercarriage (Tierod Ends) is undamaged.
Cabrio: Open and close trunk many (7) times in a row. Some have either a bad miro-switch, or spring mechanism.
Cabrio: Make sure top operates correctly
Cabrio: Make sure tridion bars come off and foam insert is in tailgate.

C. Tires/Wheels

Tire pressure set to factory spec.
Check tire balance
Check lug bolt torques (81 ft/lb)
Check wheel alignment
Reset TPMS if tire pressures were adjusted
Be aware of the factory setting tire pressure for cold tires

D. Inside

All door latches and locks working.
Horn working
Two Operational ignition keys
All installed equipment/options working properly (heated seats, rear defroster, a/c, turn signals, emergency flashers, pod clock)
Radio operation and reception (AM/FM bands)
Full tank of gas
Battery fully charged
Check the whole shifter mechanism for not only lubrication, but now loose fasteners. (Ask dealer to dismantle and check)
Owners manual and assorted booklets in place
Brakes checked and bled if necessary
Have Rep. show you location of battery
Make sure all battery/grounding cables are properly tightened down.
Check battery with 10-15 second load test.

E. Contact Information and Exit Paperwork

A list of “who to contact” at the dealership; salesperson, manager, service, parts, etc.
Who to contact (if interested) for the local smart owners chapter

“Full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, make sure it's dark, and that you're wearing sunglasses.”

Thanks!

This is such a useful list (and site)! I just printed out the checklist to take with me tomorrow to pick up my orphan. I emailed the dealer in advance to have the tech check out the stick shift, the alarm positioning and headlight positions. I don't feel like waiting around for things to be fixed. The dealer said it will be all taken care of.

The collective smart wisdom on these boards is very much appreciated!

Vil

One other thing that I just had happen to me. Not sure if it's on the list. Windsheild wipers. My driver side one was going off the window and cleaning the tridon. Not good due to eventually it will rub your paint off. Might want to check that too. lol.
