San Francisco Smart Car Delivery

My dealer, Smart of San Francisco, called on Tuesday to tell me my car was in and to arrange for delivery. My reservation number is 1174; Passion, Blue Metallic, Black Tridion. I was told they officially open the dealership to the public on Saturday and that they have 50 cars queued for delivery. I will be picking mine up on Sunday and will post any relevant information. They told me to expect 2 hours for the delivery process. They seem slightly disappointed that I wanted to keep the car.

Of note, there will be no special dealer charges and Destination Charge for this area is around $650.

Great to hear (esp about the dealer charges) and congrats, I have not be able to get through for any info. Thanks for the update, looking forward to hearing about your delivery and your thoughts on the car in SF. And take pictures too

Now I have just got to get the word to them not to drill the front bumper!

destination charge is the same for every Smart no matter where it is delivered. fees are capped at $55 in CA. legally they can't do any funny business.

My memory could be faulty here, but I thought I had seen dealers glom on funny fees like dealer prep in CA before though...

not that i remember from any CA dealers. "dealer prep" fees are illegal here. if you see that, scream.

Congratulations! Wow, they're sitting on 50 cars, I wonder if everyone's been notified? Should be less than a week before those cars are into their owners anxious hands!

I posted my findings on the delivery page, but here are some specifics for future smart owners in the SF area:

- Allow for 2-3 hours as there is paperwork and they insist on taking you for a test drive.
- Everyone at the smart side of the business (2nd floor) is great and they are all jazzed about the car.
- Front license plate will be installed; no exceptions. Apparently MB got nailed with a class action suit a few years ago from a guy who got a no front plate ticket.
-When I picked up the car Sunday, they hadn't unpacked the accessories delivery yet. I went for all weather floor mats and am waiting for the luggage covers to come in to make having stuff in the back area more practical.
-Mileage guestimate is around 41-42 based on the gauge gradations and the knowledge that the tank holds 8 or so gallons. Will post in the relevant area when I have my first fill-up. They gave me a full tank when I picked up the car (nice touch).

Thanks! I like the photos. I've never seen the blue and black look so deep and rich. Very nice combination. It's going to look good in the sun and the fog.

I'm looking forward to mirroring your experience. Loretta in SF said I should hear from them in about 3 weeks. They are really fielding a lot of calls from interested people, I can see how much time that's going to take.
