And So It Starts...

My Smart was due into the dealer tomorrow (11/29) and today I was told (after I called them!) that now it isn't due in until the 6th of December. Arrgghh!!! Is this the beginning of something that will drag on and on or is this a common occurrence that happens and the delivery date really does slip by only one week? Soooo frustrating after a year's wait to be so close and then told "one more week". Do those people even KNOW that they're messing with people's heads when they do that???

Better late then never. I put off myself. Getting mine, for 4 days, after they called me.
I wasn't really in a big rush. Relax.Take deep breaths, watch a DVD of the pink panther(if you can stomach it). It will come soon enough. Go over to the dealer and take a look at it before its cleaned up. That's what I did. Take another test drive, of a demo. Go luck.

Mine slipped by about a week at the end. Every day the DDE would slip to maintain 30 days from the start date. The excuse was the dealer was the farthest east from the west coast port.

Yeah, I'm normally a very patient person but a year is a long time. I only waited 9 months for each of my daughters! And then no reason was given by the dealer today for the slip in delivery date. Actually, it's not been easy getting information out of them from the beginning which I find annoying. Wait until they have to deal with me on service checks and such. They'll soon learn who I am! My name will be in their computer system with a red flag next to it. lol

And what makes you more special than the rest of us who waited more than a year.

Do you realy think the dealer is trying to mislead you. I find most try not to say anything because they have learned things change.
Did you miss the whole delay of the 09 issue. It was covered extensivly on this forum. There was almost 1 month between the end of the 08 deliveries and the start of the 09 deliveries because of a silly little EPA sticker.

I find that folks that go into a situation itching for a fight and a sense of entitlement will get a fight and poor service. Folks who go in with a plesant atttitude are the folks the service industy like to please.

I just picked my 2009 up on 11/26th. Was delayed over a week. On other threads it is mentioned that 2009 were delayed due to EPA stickers not being in place. I do give credit to smart, San Jose California. They had wanted to set up delivery for Saturday Nov. 29th. I said that they were killing me with the delays and that I had really hoped to get it before my birthday, (this year it fell on Thanksgiving). They made delivery happen on Wed Nov 26th. Best birthday present!!! I grined all the way home.

What I can say after having it (a 2009 Passion w/comfort package) a whole two days is that it is worth the wait. I never test drove the 2008, but everything I have read here is that the trany programing is a 50% improvement over the 2008. The door nets are nice, more flexible than the hard pockets.

The wait is hard, but your baby is almost home. Anticipation is half the fun.

Enjoy your little one when it arrives, and remember to take picture of the delivery.

We got pretty lucky, due date was 21 Nov, car actually showed up at the dealer 22 Nov. along with 39 other Smarts.
Dealer did a helluva job getting the car ready for pickup.
We live 250 miles from dealer and the wife only had one day off from the hospital, Mon 24th or we would have to wait another week before we could get up there.
We were their first 09 delivery.
We got there at 1530 and were back on the road heading home by 1730. Got back home around 2215.
Long day but well worth it.
Man,, that biege interior is a knockout!!!
Sound system is great, it does justice to Nickelback and Santana.
Anyway,, dealer response was excellent and the car has exceeded our expectations.
Will try to get some pic's up Sat.
Later
Rich
