I was one of the customers whose car had a flaw and they had to reorder. Then there was a mistake by the shipper at the dock and a few more days wait. But smart more than shared the blame/expense/inconvenience and all is well. Still doing "things" to it for looks and performance and so far so good. A few things I may undue, but I'll give it a little more time. Having too much fun not to enjoy it...
And what makes you more special than the rest of us who waited more than a year.
Do you realy think the dealer is trying to mislead you. I find most try not to say anything because they have learned things change.
Did you miss the whole delay of the 09 issue. It was covered extensivly on this forum. There was almost 1 month between the end of the 08 deliveries and the start of the 09 deliveries because of a silly little EPA sticker.
I find that folks that go into a situation itching for a fight and a sense of entitlement will get a fight and poor service. Folks who go in with a plesant atttitude are the folks the service industy like to please.
Wow! Hostile much??? I don't think I'm the only one who's expressed angst at how hard it is to wait for their Smart to come in. In answer to your question, no...I don't think I'm more special than anyone else who has had to wait. I'm just one more soon-to-be Smart owner who is anxious to be on the road behind the wheel of her new Smart like some of the others on this site already are. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to express my feelings of excitement. I'd thought that people on here would understand how I feel ~ both those who have already suffered through the wait and already have their Smarts and those who like me are still waiting. Everything I said was tongue-in-cheek. So sorry to have offended you.
Hi Bamawana, you have to have broad shoulders to come on here, and not be easily offended, we have been a little rough on you, but you have to be careful what you write and you came on a little strong, and I have always found if you want a fight you will get it.
I do hope you get your smart and you are happy with it, you have to wait a long time over there, I went for a test drive, ordered my smart and picked it up the next week, as there was no waiting list here in Britain, so I have no idea what you are going through, but I know I could'nt wait that long for anything, I want it now!
So good luck and happy smarting.
I just picked my 2009 up on 11/26th. Was delayed over a week. On other threads it is mentioned that 2009 were delayed due to EPA stickers not being in place. I do give credit to smart, San Jose California. They had wanted to set up delivery for Saturday Nov. 29th. I said that they were killing me with the delays and that I had really hoped to get it before my birthday, (this year it fell on Thanksgiving). They made delivery happen on Wed Nov 26th. Best birthday present!!! I grined all the way home.
What I can say after having it (a 2009 Passion w/comfort package) a whole two days is that it is worth the wait. I never test drove the 2008, but everything I have read here is that the trany programing is a 50% improvement over the 2008. The door nets are nice, more flexible than the hard pockets.
The wait is hard, but your baby is almost home. Anticipation is half the fun.
Enjoy your little one when it arrives, and remember to take picture of the delivery.
Thanks for the input about the SJ dealer. So far they haven't really been very communicative with us so I was a little concerned about that. I met one of the sales people and she was really nice, although she didn't seem to know much, which was also a concern. I haven't taken a test drive either so it should be interesting when we pick up our new baby! lol Yeah, the anticipation is definitely part of the fun; I just hate having the rug ripped out from under me once I've marked the calendar, even though one week isn't all that bad. I just hope it's only the one week and they don't keep moving the date. Oh well, as you say I know the wait will be more than worth it once I see my Smart on the lot. Congrats on your new baby. Enjoy!
bamawama, I sure didn't read anything in your post that was even the slightest out of line, and you sure weren't picking a fight. It'll all go away next week when you get your smart. And feel lucky, I waited 17 months. Would have gone crazy if I hadn't picked up an orphan to hold me over...

Thanks for the support! Wish I could've gotten an orphan but apparently there's one heck of a waiting list for those as well. 17 months?! Ouch!! I know a year doesn't sound like much when I hear about some others' waits. I really wasn't being whiny. I was just disappointed that my delivery date was changed the day before & I only found out because I called them. I really am a patient person and I know the "pain" of waiting will definitely be worth it when I finally get to drive my Smart down the road. I hope you're enjoying your Smart after your long wait.

To me it came accross as someone itchin for a fight with someone who has no control over the situation, Your dealer.

Well, I sure wasn't looking for a fight! Lucky you, to be able to get a Smart car so quickly. Could you box one up and send it over here?

Hi there,
I have used the emoticons, guess I forgot to use the one for lol. Despite my Irish heritage I don't usually go looking for a fight. I'd just like to be peacefully driving my Smart car sooner rather than later.
You only had wait a year! LUCKY YOU! There are some of us that are waiting WAY LONGER than that. I would give my right arm to only wait a year.
Take a deep breath and get ready to enjoy while some of us keep waiting.
