I wanted to update those following the drama that is our financial situation. I have been trying to sell my motorcycle for months now. Its worth at least $3000 but it was in a fender bender and then the stock market crashed. I really wanted $2000 and after much frustration, a person in florida agreed to pay $900-$100 less than it costs us a year ago. But that puts us right in lone to have at least $4000 down on our smart, which the dealer said because of that, I should get a loan. That dosnt mean we can celebrate yet, but its one more step!
Now, I just have to wait on the money to come in and my DDE to come back...
I feel yer pain, brutha! I can't sell my Prius either, and we're making 2 car payments and paying for double the insurance as well. I've been asking for $2000k less than KBB, but no takers. Had I known it would be this bad, I wouldn't have bought the smart, but... sure glad I have it, anyway!
Trena, I'm in the same boat with my Nissan Sentra. Difference is, I bought the Sentra as a stop gap while waiting for my smart. Should've bought a throwaway car instead.
Gonna try Craig's List again ... maybe eBay too. I've had lots of calls, but financing is hard to come by it seems.

Do ebay. usually I wouldn't suggest that (FeeBay is more like it) but they have a deal right now where they will only charge you $125 from the final price. And dont do a reserve. I did twice on my bike and no one bid. I got a hit when I didnt do a reserve. It still didnt sell thru ebay, but thats ok. ebay didnt charge me anything either.
Craig's List is free. No reserve? On a car I owe $11,000 on? I don't think so.
Yes, craigslist is free. But you can only list in one area. Ebay is nation wide. And I said no reserve, not .99 starting bid. I would do both. Its also free to cancel your auction.
2 quick things.... why are you going through Smarts Financing... their rates are ridiculous for a new car. Find any local credit union... stick 100 bucks in an account and you will probably get approved at a rate in the 6% area. (I got 6.2% last week)
Second, (and I'll probably get flamed for this) if you having a problem selling your car and live near one go to CarMax for a free appraisal. If you like the offer and want to sell they will cut you a check... Yes it will be less then private party cause its based off auctions but if your not selling it private party it can't hurt to try. Worst thing that happens is you don't like the offer and you leave knowing what its worth and keep trying to sell it! Good luck guys
Food for thought. But, RE nationwide (worldwide actually) ... the same is true for Craig's List. But, hard to image anyone from New Jersey taking delivery from Florida
The first listing I did on Craig's List got a response from Missouri ... most likely a scam attempt.
EDIT: Not familiar with CarMax. Not one here. VeHix is another possibility.

Yea, ebay is world wide, but I dont think someone would buy from outside the country and ship it. I have tried listing in more than one area in CL and it either wont let me, or gets flagged down.
