As my DDE approaches: 7/14-10/12/08, I thought it might be time to make contact with my dealership to learn what, if any, additional information they might have on my car. I expected to learn that it was "scheduled for production, in production, or something similar. Instead, they tell me they "know nothing until the car is delivered to their lot!" This directly contradicts what others have found from their dealers.
Now I have to question if my dealership is stupid and ignorant of the information they have at hand?/ Too lazy to bother checking on customer queries? / or....just outright LIARS?
At any rate, their response makes me not happy and doesn't bode well for an ongoing relationship with them. Oh..I can tell, we're gonna have fun ahead!
Regardless, I'm getting the car! I sure won't give them an orphan to load up with junk to sell at thousands of dollars over book. But, they won't get away with game playing if that's what they expect!
Now I'm beginning to remember the reason it's been so long since I've bought a car!!!
Some dealers don't take the time to get any pre-delivery information for their buyers. I can see you and I believe this to be a major mistake. I have tried to get the GM at my dealership to realize how much this effort would buy her but she doesn't see any profit in it. Too bad we can't all be smart center Seattle customers. Good Luck.

I received the same, "we know nothing" from the floor guys when I called, despite the fact that smart itself told me that my car was "somewhere between the port in Baltimore and the dealership." Upon some prodding, they admitted that the manager of the Smart department (sorry, can't remember his name ... last name Albers maybe?) could look up info on his computer and I was transferred to him, and he was able to tell me more specifically when I could expect a call that my car had come in. And it was accurate almost to the day.
Yeps, I got that from a couple of the sales guys at CH. They don't know what they're getting till it gets there. The salesman goes out with a clipboard and his new paperwork to a load of fortwos in the lot. As others say here....go to the dealership and make yourself known. Be pleasant.... do someting memorable like spill your coffee or something. hehehe J/K You get the idea.
I kind of agree with whats been said likely these guys you are talking to truly don't know anything. Given my previous dealer experience I think CH has been very friendly to me in my ongoing relationship. When I was there last week there were atleast 12 in the side lot.
My dealer, SmartCenter Riverside, CA, was pretty good. But then I also took the time shortly after they opened, about a month before my Smart shipped, to stop by and introduce myself and get to know the GM and staff. If at all possible, do this on a week day when they aren't being bombarded by looky-loos.
That said, there's no sure cure for a lousy dealer other than to politely report your experience to SmartUSA.
hi everyone,
my reservation was made on 5/16/07 #7462801231,my window is 5/10/08 to 8/10/08.this was moved back from 4/28/08 to 7/28/08.i have called the contact number at smart and they said after it is assigned to the dealer all the info goes to them.i called the dealer at cherry hill and even stopped in there to talk to the sales people and they said that they only find out 4 or 5 days before the cars get there.they said if it the car was a mercedes, they could punch in the order #and tell me exactly where the car is.i dont know if they are lazy, liars or telling the truth!!
anyone out there who picked up their smart from cherry hill want to comment?
