FWIIW... I agree with his analysis of the genus "car dealer"
Well, I was able to pry my VIN from my dealership but when the car arrived in Indianapolis on a Wednesday, they did not call me. I happened to call on Friday to see if they knew anything and lo and behold, it had been there for two days. I picked it up the next Monday.

Welcome to the world of Philly smart owners -- we're a growing breed (because we need to park!).
My experience with CH is noted above -- for the most part very positive. I can tell you that they didn't call me either, although I assumed that was because I already knew when my car hit the dock in Baltimore (because I was a persistent inquirer with smartUSA itself) and instead had called them about it.
I had a similar experience with my dealer. Most of the salesmen were 20 somethings that acted as if they were doing me a favor and had no answers to any of my questions. They were spoiled by having all their customers handed to them and not having to actually make a sale.
When I got the call that my car was scheduled to be shipped, all they wanted to know was whether I was going to take delivery and if so, I had 2 weeks to leave a minimum of $1000 deposit. Then when I was there to put down the $1000, I asked if they had any idea when the car would arrive. I was told that they are only told when the car leaves Germany and arrives in Baltimore. When the salesman was getting my VIN from the manager, I looked at his computer, and my car had a date of 6/17. I asked what that meant and he blew me off.
I tracked my car across the Atlantic to Baltimore. Unfortunately I was on a business trip, but I got an email on 6/18 that my car was in. Amazingly close to the 6/17 I saw on the computer.
The whole experience with the dealer really turned me off, but when I finally picked up my car, someone cleaned house and there was only one salesperson left that I recognized. I was surprised to find out that a dealership with such poor customer service was owned by Roger Penske.
Just curious, how'd you track the car across the Atlantic, or was that just a figure of speech? CH Smart (Ed) told me mine would arrive 8/15, I'd love to know more so I can swing money into accounts. Assume I can pay with AMEX to get the points! Did you go with a warrantee?
Wow! Now I want my VIN! Will call tomorrow... Hopefully VIN is available 30 days before delivery which would be 7/15. Mid-point in DDE and what dealer said coincide there.. Tx.

No go on the Amex ... I tried that myself. CH won't take more than, I think, $500 or $1000 on the Amex because of the commissions they have to pay to Amex.
