Snow chain suggestions?

It's that time of year again, and this year I'd finally like to get some properly-fitted chains for my baby, a 2005 Fortwo Passion Cabrio. I'd rather not do any jerry-rigging of chains to work for my tires.

Any budget-conscious suggestions? (I've seen some outrageous prices for chains, perhaps around $200!!).

Thanks to all of you other brave pioneers out there!

I bought from tirechainsupply.com. I don't know the size of tires on your 450, but these might fit, or others on their site. I bought model # 02-1520. $63 + tax & ship = $75.50.

Hi Churpee -

I bought these from Les Schwab, but haven't had to use them yet. They are adjustable and the sales guy put them on (my smart - ) and they fit fine! also about $75.

RE: Snow chains

Thanks, Dave and Suze! I'll check out these two leads.

If anyone else has a suggestion, I think those should be welcomed, too, in case I (or anyone else reading this thread who needs chains) can't/don't want to obtain one of the two already recommended.

Looks nasty, chains rubbing on nice painted alloy wheels. I would put those on the cheaper painted steel wheels. Let us know if it rubs the paint off.

If adjusted properly they shouldn't rub against the wheels. I'll only use them if I have to - like if I get caught in a snow storm on a mountain pass. Not for everyday snow driving.

Suze, if you haven't put them on yet, I suggest you give it a try in the garage. The instructions are not at all intuitive. Once I figured them out I could get each one on in about 2 minutes. I think we have the exact same chains; different supplier, same model #.
