Well, not exactly - many photos of the new Fiesta are out there but I happened to get theses during a short and very tame test drive today just outside of Cincinnati:
Overall, I think it's a really nice little 5 door hatchback with several neat features: no gas cap, power steering standard, full leather interior and 17 inch wheels optional, 1.6 liter dual overhead cam engine making about 115 hp, and according to the test drivers capable of 40 mpg at 80 mph cruise, getting close to 50 mpg at 65 mph cruise, around 40 mpg in town. No idea what the EPA estimates will be. Transmissions are a 5 speed manual (with a clutch pedal) and an automatic with manual shift feature. Price point is supposed to be around $15K.
Ford had one sitting at the state fair this year, and it was fully loaded, and it was pretty nice inside, seemed like the fit and finish was good, leather was good quality, and quite a few people were looking at it, and seemed interested in it.
Quite possibly another quality product coming from Ford!
I got to eyeball one a few weeks ago myself and agree that Ford is going to add a few more nails in to GM's coffin with the Fiesta. I can only imagine how many they would have moved during the 'cash for clunkers' deal had the Fiesta been available.
Hope the automatic is a dual clutch quick shifter and quick to follow your shift request, Europeans know good handling cars and are raving about the handling this one, so I know it will be fun to drive.
We've had this model fiesta out in the UK for the last year and they're pretty good. Certainly better than the last couple of models of Fiesta we've had. We're holding out hope they'll produce a proper hot-hatch version this time, rather than the pretty dull Sport of the last model which was seriously lacking power compared to things like the Renault Clio 182.
Are you guys getting the new Ford Ka as well? Which is, in my opinion, a bit better looking than the Fiesta?
(And stop putting bloody auto boxes in everything ;) )
I can't wait, hopefully I'll still have my job at the dealership when these land... I might actually start making sales again! I would probably crap bricks of the KA came over..I wanted a SportKa for YEARS... It's what got me liking the super small cars like the smart!
