Another Chink in Toyota's Armor (New Prius)

My wife's Prius has computer problems; every now and then it just drops out of gear and goes to Neutral. It requires a full shutdown and re-start to fix.

The other week, it wouldn't even turn off. My wife had to fiddle with it to get it to shut down.

Sadly, these problems are erratic, so taking the car to the dealer does no good. If they can't see it happen, they can't fix it.

They should be able to plug a scan gauge into that piece and detect some failure codes

DETROIT (AP) -- Toyota has told dealers it's preparing a plan to repair the brakes on thousands of hybrid Prius cars in the U.S.
In a message sent Friday night to dealers, a Toyota group vice president, Bob Carter, said the company is working on a plan and will disclose more details early next week.

When a tire goes airborne with ABS, the ABS cannot compute the total lack of traction, and the sudden reapplication of it. So it momentarily releases everything. Don't know why. Just know it does. (Personal experience in Chevy cop cars)

Just a side note, at times it seems that the public has a "short term memory". Remember when gas was reaching $5 per gallon? The sales of big SUVs and Trucks fell flat and people were trying to get rid of their gas hogs. Today, people act like that never happened or will never happen again.

I wonder if a year from now, people won't even think about the Toyota problems???

Been confirmed, 250,000 3rd gen Prii (as owners seem to call Prius in plural form) have been recalled to fix this ABS issue.

I do find it quite funny that there have been barely any (if any) recalls to the Lexus line knowing that a Lexus is no more than a more crafty Toyota.
