This would be a great car for really old people who want to keep driving but really shouldn't be on the freeway. You can't go fast enough to hurt anyone. I think the French have something like that for their old folks and people with DUI's.

Thanks! It's a great idea. I know an 86 year old who could use a car like that. If only we had something like that in America. Much more compassionate way to deal with older drivers than just yanking the license.

I don't think this car would be able to compete in the US market... 33 hp at 5500 rpm, 65 mph top speed, acceleration 0-43 in 14 sec, 12 inch tires, 4 gal gas tank, couldn't find much about safety but for $2500 retail I would get the impression it couldn't be that safe...just my 2 cents

I think I'll stick to my smart!

Tata's primary market:

The Demographics of India are overall remarkably diverse. India's population of approximately 1.13 billion people (estimate for March 10, 2008)[citation needed] comprises approximately one-sixth of the world's population. India is expected to overtake China by 2030 and will then be the most populated country in the world.

If the per capita gas useage gets to just 1 gallon per person per month....not sure where that's going to come from. The per capita gasoline use in California is about 400 gallons a year. There just isn't going to be enough gas to go around.

It's funny that it states you can drive this car if your license is suspended, you will get a ticket in the USA for driving suspended if you drive any motorized vehicle on the roadway regardless of speed (including a lawn mower, golf cart or motorized wheelchair).

Not in Switzerland where this bridled smart is considered as a city-only (understand "agricultural") vehicle, prohibited on freeways, interstate, etc... Nonetheless handy for those who had one too many, got their license revoked and still depend on their car for work or any other reason. But, at 30 mph max, you don't get very far very fast!
